Jimi "Primetime" Smith's guitar lessons included Jimmy Reed and Eddie Taylor, and he cut his teeth accompanying other formidable figures on the blues scene, such as pianist Sunnyland Slim and harmonica player Big Walter Horton. Released by New Folk Records and produced by Bob Corritore, Clarke Rigsby, Kid Andersen, and John Wroble, "It's My Time" is his first album in nearly 15 years and features 11 original songs in which he proves himself to be a skilled vocalist but, above all, an excellent guitarist, whose favorite instruments are an Epiphone Les Paul and an old Stratocaster plugged into Fender Deluxe amplifiers.
