Billy Barnett was born in 1959 in East St.Louis to a musical family. His mother played the piano and his father sang in the church choir. He started playing guitar at the age of nine. In grade school and high school bands, he also played the trumpet. After seeing Andres Segovia and Joe Pass perform,he decided to study jazz and classical guitar at SIU at Edwardsville, Ill. Following that, he joined Streetcorner Symphony. After playing with them for twelve years, he started up his own band. He has since opened up for and shared the stage with many musicians. They range from Roy Orbinson, The Neville Brothers, The John Scofield Band, R.L. Burnside, Johnnie Johnson, Jean Luc Ponty, Victor Wooten, Ernie Isley, to rockers like Nazerith, REO Speedwagon, Billy Corigan, and Yngwie Malmsteem. Most recently St Louisian Chuck Berry, The Rippingtons,and Steel guitar master Robert Randolph. In Branson, Mo. he also played with country fiddler, Shoji Tabuchi, for one year. Currently, he works at a guitar shop called Gravity Strings, gives guitar lessons, plays with his blues-rock band, "The Movers" , and "The Smash Band," with local radio personality, "Smash." His original band "The Billy Barnett Band" has just released his fifth self-produced c.d. titled "Faith In You" on September 12th. With his unique blend of blues and jazz and rock. Currently with Ron Carr on drums Phil Burton on bass, Chris Deusinger on Tenor, alto, and ! flute.
