Busting down the backdoor is Detroit’s Eliza Neals with “Breaking and Entering,” the blues-rock pry bar to her award winning album “messin with a fool.” Prowling with Detroit’s blazing blues guitarist Howard Glazer + hit producer Mike Puwal these housebreaker’s know how to sneak their way to your crown jewels. A team of safecracker musicians, with featured guest guitarist Kenny Olson (Kid Rock) plus Gabe Gonzelez (George Clinton) on drums drills open a pandemonium of grit-grime and gris-gris from power bluesy vocalist, musician, songwriter and producer Eliza Neals.
“Breaking and Entering” is eleven songs worthy of the finest cat burglar’s bag. The spoils of vintage analog studios plus hours of planning a musical caper that many a Blues-Rock fan can’t escape. “A well-proportioned mix of toughness and vulnerability, the robust-voiced Neals can match power and attitude with most any soul diva around.” Roots Music Report 2014
On Wurlitzer, Hammond B3 and grand piano, Eliza Neals laid down the grooves in the famous SST-iiWii in Weehawken, New Jersey with engineer Billy Perez. Working on one of the only fully operating vintage Focusrite boards in the world, named "number 11" was a thrill. Creating at Tempermill studios in Ferndale, Michigan on vintage microphones plus board, with international Blues guitarist Howard Glazer was a match. This true pursuit paid off with minimal recording and mixing, capturing the music and vocals just as they are, raw.
The accomplice in engineering, producing and mixing was Billboard charting producer Mike Puwal at his Univox 1 studio in Nashvile TN. Hit guitarist Kenny Olson dialed right into the plan beautifuly. Mastered by Dave Feeny (White Stripes) owner/engineer of the Tempermill.
Rounding out the team of musicians includes Detroit's funky bassist Paul Randolph (Mudpuppy) and engineer Eric Maluchnik (Tempermill) on drum. Tim Grogan (Desert Rose Band) out of Nashville on drums, adds his extra special tools. Eliza Neals New York musicians also got in on the bounty by featuring Tyrone Smith (KT Turnstall, Joss Stone) on Hammond B3, piano and saxophone. Michael Galante on drums with guitarist Shane Visbal and Chris Vega on bass also out of the 'Big Apple.' NYC back-up soul vocalists are Lizz Kristi and Renee' Flemings.
"It’s said that everybody has had the blues, but we’d like to add not everybody can sing about ‘em. Fortunately for Detroiters, Eliza Neals can sing. And she can sing well. The Detroit Music Award-winner has a range that we don’t see a lot of around these parts. Not your grandpappy’s blues, Neals puts a modern spin on a form that birthed what we listen to today. She expertly draws from inspirations that include the legendary Barrett Strong…" Voted Best Blues Artist/Group by Real Detroit Weekly Readers Feb 2013
National press and radio says "Eliza has such power in her voice that she can take on a big song and do it real justice" DJ Phill Penny Radio Trent UK. "Eliza Neals hits you right between the eyes…" Blues Blast Magazine. "songs that are easily imagined as going down a storm in a drink-fuelled late-night after-hours lock in." The Blog of the Blues.
