Some of the great, iconic songs in the history of recording (obviously), which Jef Lee Johnson makes utterly his own. Johnson was an extraordinary guitarist, with the entire history of the music of the African diaspora under his fingertips. Bringing, along with some of the most intense and psychedelic electric guitar playing you'll ever hear, makes all of these songs startling and new.
Love his versions of Highway 61 and Ballad of a Thin Man. Jef does some good stuff though I wouldn't mind if he did a little less of the Hendrix thing. His other albums of originals are really great. He segues into a bit of a Sonny Sharrock groove on a few of the tunes which keeps things lively.
