Stories of loss, Love and redemption unfold against a backdrop of acoustic and electric slide guitar. From the quirky playing of Blacktop Furnace, a tribute to the sacrifices people make for the ones they Love, to the acoustic Barroom meditation of 'Nobody's Gonna Ask Me Why', Lange delivers the goods with style and a wicked laugh.
Dan Lange played & sang in blues bands in the Philly area for many years before moving to London England where he played Country Blues in pubs & clubs. Now he's pushing his brand of gritty, soulful music in the Bay area of California.

For a decade, Mr. Aledort was a member of Great Southern, the band led by Dickey Betts, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band. A senior editor of Guitar World magazine, he has written more than 200 books of guitar transcriptions and a series of instructional books and videos. His book "Jimi Hendrix Signature Licks: A Step-by-Step Breakdown of His Guitar Styles and Techniques" led to recordings and performances with Double Trouble, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan's rhythm section. That experience led him to perform and record with Billy Cox, Mitch Mitchell, and Buddy Miles, all members of Hendrix's bands. He is also a co-author of "Texas Flood: The Inside Story of Stevie Ray Vaughan," which The Star called "a colorful and lively biography of a complicated, obsessed, spiritual, and immensely talented musician."  Mr. Aledort is himself immensely talented. "Light of Love," recorded over a 27-year span and all but one of its tracks an original composition, delves into various genres and textures, but the guitarist's otherworldly skills are a constant. It is clear that Hendrix is a primary influence, and he channels the legendary guitarist and composer's instrumental ferocity and emotion on tracks like "Have Mercy on Me," recorded with Double Trouble in Austin, Tex. The explosiveness is sometimes matched by an equal measure of tenderness, as on "Wonder." He is uncannily Beatle-esque on "Buried Summerville" (more on that later), and intensely soulful on "Save Something for Me."
"I don't know what it is about that song," Mr. Aledort said of "Save Something for Me" during a long conversation that touched on the artistry of Roy Orbison, Hendrix, the Beatles, the Righteous Brothers, Johnny Winter, the Black Crowes, and many others. "I don't even know what that phrase necessarily means. I think it means 'don't forget about me.' People can relate to that." For Mr. Aledort, who previously released the albums "Live at the North Star 2009" and "Put a Sock in It," the title track of "Light of Love" is another standout. It concludes with two simultaneous slide guitar solos. Each sings its own melody, but "there are moments when they intersect and harmonize, and drift apart," he observed. "I was trying to emulate two people's lives, traveling, then coming together and traveling in concert, if you will. They're in harmony, and then they might break off again. That was my attempt to, in a musical way, represent what happens in a relationship between two people." Paul McCartney has said that he awoke, one morning in 1965, with the melody of "Yesterday" in his head. Around 30 years later, Mr. Aledort dreamed that he heard Mr. McCartney, who owns a house in Amagansett, playing piano and singing the chorus of "Buried Summerville" on the radio. "It was very clear, the lyrics and everything, and I came right downstairs and was able to play it," he recalled. "Sometimes it evaporates, but that's exactly what he was playing and singing. I wrote the rest of the song around that one little thing from the dream."  For the bridge, he turned to another Beatles-influenced group. "I wanted the bridge to sound like Squeeze, so I listened to five Squeeze songs, and then wrote the bridge."
Mr. Aledort and Michael Clark, LTV's executive director, are longtime friends; the musician both performed and led workshops at Mr. Clark's Crossroads Music shop when it was at Amagansett Square. "We are really excited to have a person of his talent and caliber coming into LTV," Mr. Clark said last week. "We're even more excited about the fact that he's finally taking all of the work that he's done for so many years and sharing it in one place with the public."

The spirit of Healing Blues is contained in the words that, following the message of the great John Lee Hooker, Fabrizio added to the original text of "The Blues Is Alright": The blues is a miracle, it is healing, it is a medicine that calms your soul, the blues is the mother and the root. It doesn't matter where you were born, the language you speak, the color of your skin: the blues is for everyone. It's time to heal. It's time to heal.

11. I Love Her Still - 5:29
12. Just Pickin' - 2:28

Musicians can always cite one record that set them off on their musical path. For Steve Grills that record was Chuck Berry’s Greatest Hits. It was the blues that was calling him even if he couldn’t exactly put a name to it. Grills was surrounded by music at an early age. His dad owned a club called The Nugget from 1969 to 1972 where artists as diverse as John Prine, Steve Goodman, Little Feat, Miles Davis, Freddie King and Harry Chapin performed. Leafing through his father’s collection he was drawn to records by Lightnin’ Hopkins, Jimmy Reed and Big Bill Broonzy. A promo copy of Andrew Odom’s Bluesway album led him to Earl Hooker, setting him on path to discover the masters of electric blues guitar. It wasn’t long before Grills picked up the guitar, learning by listening to the records of Freddie King, who would become a major inspiration on his playing.
Eventually Grills gravitated to the clubs where he encountered two bluesmen that would have a major influence on him: Albert Collins and Robert Lockwood. Grills would catch Collins whenever he played local joints like Red Creek or the BK Lounge and would drive all over New York to catch his gigs. Grills first met Lockwood in 1978 and the two developed a friendship that lasted until Lockwood’s passing in 2006. Grills recalls a time he was playing Lionel Hampton’s “Red Top”, a song Lockwood performed, when Lockwood chuckled and took the time to show him the proper changes. Lockwood, who didn’t give praise lightly, obviously saw something in Grills and invited him to perform at his annual Legendary Blues Festival. Grills visited him at his home in Cleveland numerous times and the two performed together on a CD by legendary harp man Shakin’ Smith.
Never one to show off, Grills nonetheless possesses and encyclopedic knowledge of blues guitar styles, flawlessly able to play the styles of everyone from Tampa Red to Freddie King to Robert Lockwood to Earl Hooker. Like his relationship to Lockwood, his connection to Hooker has a personal connection. For many years Grills worked with J.J. Jackson, whose tenor playing graced some of Earl’s recordings on the Cuca label. Jackson gave Grills a 1964 Fender Bassman amp that Earl used, its white tolex painted black for an updated look.
Jackson passed in 1998 but the Hooker connection is retained on this recording with the presence of pianist Ernest Lane. Growing up in Clarksdale Lane had the right background for a bluesman; his father was a barrelhouse pianist, his boyhood friend was Ike Turner and Pinetop Perkins was a friend of the family who showed the youngsters a thing or two. When he was just a teenager Lane hooked up with legendary slide guitarist Robert Nighthawk. Nighthawk eventually took him to Chicago where he backed him on several memorable sides in the late 40's including the blues classics” Anna Lee Blues" and “Sweet Black Angel.” After Nighthawk he played with Earl Hooker, Houston Stackhouse and others before heading to the California in 1956. There he worked with Jimmy Nolen, George “Harmonica” Smith and was recruited by old buddy Ike Turner to be a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. After leaving Ike he joined a group called the Goodtimers who eventually wound up backing the Monkees for about a year on tour. Through the late 60's/early 70's he played and recorded for Canned Heat before giving up music altogether. Recently Lane played on Ike Turner’s comeback record, toured the US and Europe with Ike’s band up until Ike's death in 2008 and released a couple of CD's under his own name.
Joe Beard is the big man on the Rochester blues scene, a mentor to countless local musicians, and an internationally known artist who's performed at major festivals around the country and the world. He's also released a series of acclaimed records on the AudioQuest label. Joe was born in Mississippi, working his way through Memphis and Chicago before settling in Rochester in the late 50's. Joe and Steve have been playing together for over twenty-five years and still perform regularly in town. Grills actually made his debut on stage between Joe's set at the K&T Tavern when he was just nineteen.
Bassist Steve Gomes is an old friend of Grills, going back nearly 30 years when they worked together with Shakin’ Smith. Gomes is a highly regarded musician, considered to be one of the finest bass players on the blues scene. Gomes career began in California, where he played with John Lee Hooker. He later joined Ronnie Earl’s band the Broadcasters. For the last decade Gomes has been part of the studio “house” band for the Severn label recording with such artist as Daryl Nulisch and Lou Pride.
On drums is a long time musical partner of Grills, Michael Plouffe, whom Grills has worked with for over 25 years. Plouffe has worked with Larry Davis and Jonny Rawls among others.
Over the years Grills dedication to the blues has not wavered. As evident by this recording, he is not trying to expand on the genre, rather playing with reverence and taste. He is not trying to out play his contemporaries, he has nothing to prove, only a love and respect for the genre that he wishes to share with his audience.

The Ron Land Band - "On The Right Track" This is a CD with a story. The story of Ron, John, and Dave. We have been a band for three years, and wanted a way to show ourselves at our best-and we did just that. This CD is the best way to show what we can do as a band. We added part time back up vocalist Janet Reetz to the mix. Janet's addition gave the CD and our live shows a little more sweetness. 'On the Right Track' is about a band destined for greatness. There is a lot of heart and soul in the music. Rockin blues, soulful music, awesome drums, bass and guitar. Ron Land should stand out as one of the best frontmen and guitar players coming up in music today. This is CD #7-- with no sign of letting up.

MUSIC MONTHLY-MARCH ISUUE 2005 'As a member of the band Mix It Up,Ron J.Land has honed his skill as a great player, and now he is letting everyone know what he is capable of with the release of "Path - Bluesman Sings The Blues". Though he plays the blues,Land does not play the kind of music typically associated with the genre. Though he may be influenced by legends like Albert King,Muddy Waters, and B.B. King,Land's style reflects more of a rock influence-a kind of postmodern blues sound. The 20 songs collected here feature both Land's talent as a singer/songwriter and his controlled guitar work. What's more impressive is that Land performs virtually all aspects of the compostions by himself, right down to the drum programming and production work making "Path- Bluesman Sings The Blues" a true labor of love for the artist.

A musician since the early 1980s, Lampano has blazed trails in whatever genre he’s chosen to perform. His influence over the succeeding generation of musicians is evident in the homage paid to him by the band Sandwich, which mentions him in their song “Betamax”—“Disyembre ni Binky Lampano”—a reference to the first band he was a part of, new wave group Deans December.
In the early ‘90s, he flourished in a solo rock career, recording the hits “Kwentong Looban” and “Hallelujah”, among others. After that he discovered the blues—“it was a revelation”/
The late great blues legend, B.B. King, once said: “If you’re white and you play the blues, you’re black once. If you’re black and you play the blues, you’re black twice.” But what if you’re brown and you sing the blues? Are you brown-black once? Or perhaps brown-black twice?

 7. Stars - 5:16
 8. Cross Over The River - 5:14

Blue-eyed soul man Colin Lake has lived an entire life since he last released an album in 2015: He left New Orleans and retired from performing two years later, sold his home, bought a boat and christened it “Wavelength” after a favorite Van Morrison song. Over the past few years, he and his wife have turned up in Belize, the Caymans, Guatemala and Antigua, only occasionally venturing out to play a gig. This album was actually recorded before he left town, left on the shelf for a few years and newly dusted off. As a result, it follows naturally from his 2015 album, One Thing That’s for Sure, with its mix of bluesy grit and romantic optimism. The music is a little more laid-back this time, though the likes of Morrison, Ry Cooder and Little Feat remain his musical touchstones. So, it’s purely coincidental that the first two songs, “Extraordinary Times” and “Last Days of the Dark Ages,” sound so topical. He was addressing different crises than the ones we’ve got now, but the music still gives a funky uplift, and the cures he offers—taking guidance from loved ones and musical heroes—still make sense.

Create Records is thrilled to announce the addition of Greg Koch to its roster. Devon Allman shares, “We are excited to sign Greg Koch to Create Records! He is loved and respected by rock stars and gear nerds worldwide, and we look forward to taking his recording career to new heights!” Greg adds, “Partnering up with Devon Allman and Create Records has me pumped. Devon’s belief in me as an artist and his broad vision for spreading the word far and wide really inspires me. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!”
Greg Koch is a dynamic force in the blues guitar scene, celebrated for his exceptional versatility and illustrious career that spans over three decades. Mentored by the extraordinary keyboardist Junior Brantley, Koch honed his craft through duo gigs as a teenager and collaborated with legendary Milwaukee harmonica greats Jim Liban and Steve Cohen.
He captured first prize in the 1989 Marshall Amplifier Bluesbreaker Guitar Showdown, judged by Buddy Guy, and has electrified audiences alongside icons like Lonnie Mack—who dubbed him “The Guitar Player from Hell”—and the late Danny Gatton, who praised his talent without reservation. A defining moment came when the great Albert King gave him an enthusiastic thumbs up after a festival performance in Milwaukee.
Now, with nearly two dozen albums and countless miles of touring under his belt, Koch has become a revered figure in the music world, particularly in the blues genre. His fans often ask which of his albums embodies the essence of the blues, a testament to the genre’s foundational role in his work. In his latest solo album, ‘Blues,’ he delivers an intimate homage to this great American art form. Partnering with Create Records, the indie label founded by fellow musician Devon Allman, Koch has curated a compilation showcasing the best of his 12-bar output, including two previously unreleased Muddy Waters covers that pay tribute to his influences. His journey into the blues began early, inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, and the Kings—Albert, B.B., and Freddie. A memorable encounter with Waters backstage solidified his path: “I said, ‘This is for me,’” recalls Koch.
‘Blues’ features a collection of live recordings that capture the spontaneity of his guitar playing, with many tracks drawn from live performances and minimal studio overdubs. The album includes contributions from notable musicians such as Larry McCray and the iconic Memphis Horns, enhancing the two lead singles, “Can’t Be Satisfied” and “Can’t Lose What You Never Had” With this album, Koch finally answers his fans’ question: “To have this—a strict, 12-bar blues record—yes, I’m ready,” he says. “I’m really proud of this collection.”

‘The Preacher’ is the album Innes Sibun has been threatening to make for many years now. When Sibun joined Robert Plant’s band in 1993 at the recommendation of Plant bassist Charlie Jones, Charlie discussed producing an instrumental album with Innes, it has taken until now for this to come to fruition due to recording & touring commitments.
The album is very nearly all instrumental with the exception of two songs featuring the soulful vocals of Detroit born Marcus Malone, Innes’s musical partner in the project Malone Sibun which released a critically well received album ‘Come Together’ just before the covid lockdown in 2020.
The album differs from past Sibun releases with a much broader palette of styles from his previous blues/rock albums. ‘The Preacher’ embraces Sibun’s love of gospel, jazz & funk & is his most eclectic album to date ranging from swampy slide guitar to 60’s style Blue note jazz, that’s not to say that there is not a big helping of blues all wrapped up in the album but his influences from Curtis Mayfield, Larry Carlton & John Scofield are easy to hear in the 11 tracks that make up the album, 10 of which are Sibun originals with the addition of the Bobby Hebb standard “Sunny”.
The album features an incredible cast of musicians with Charlie Jones ( Page/Plant, The Cult, Goldfrapp) playing bass on three cuts with Clive Deamer (Jeff Beck, Portishead, Robert Plant, Radiohead) on drums & John Baggott (Robert Plant, Portishead, Massive Attack) on electric piano.
The other songs feature Sibun’s touring band with Kevin O’Rourke on drums, Kevin Jefferies (Roger Taylor) on bass & Anders Olinder (Glenn Hughes) on Hammond organ & piano.

By Dino DiMuro
I got to know Nashville’s Nick Evans Mowery earlier this year when I reviewed his album “Midnight Faces.” Never one to gather moss, Mowery is already back with another full-length album (his 22nd) titled From The Top Down.
Mowery’s resume is so long that even providing excerpts would preclude actually reviewing his music! Suffice to say he’s a Berklee College of Music graduate, majored in music/guitar performance and business at Ohio State University, and ultimately became prolific at placing his music in TV shows and movies (there’s a very long list, believe me!). His single “Hey Joe” rode the top of the iTunes Blues Single Chart in February of 2023. His band has played countless clubs and opened for national touring acts (Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers, John Nemeth and Walter Trout among them).
Mowery began playing guitar at age 12 and has been inspired by Steely Dan, Tower of Power, Bob Dylan, Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. This new album features a mix of genres but is best described as singer-songwriter blues rock. Mowery performed all vocals, guitars, bass, piano, organ, percussion and drum programming, as well as producing. Recording took place at Tangent Boy Studios in Murfreesboro, TN.
Last time around, Mowery’s first track reminded me of the Faces (Rod Stewart’s old band). Instead,“Give Peace a Try” evokes the Grateful Dead both in style, vocals and title. It’s a funky, upbeat tune heavily weighted with funky organ. Lyrically you can easily imagine the post-60’s sentiments. “Headed for the Break” downshifts immediately into a soulful lament for a love in trouble, with descending chords and heartache vocals recalling the soul masters like Al Green… or even Rod Stewart! This track features some terrific backing singers, which is quite amazing if it’s all Nick.
“From the Top Down” returns to the upbeat locomotion of the opening track, with maybe some David Lee Roth grit to the vocals. Mowery’s programmed drums sound great, and there’s a cool fuzz guitar adding commentary throughout. The chorus is wordless but features some sweet acoustic guitar moves alongside the electric. “The Night I Met John Prine” already has a great title and tales a great story with jumpy, ants-in-your-pants rhythms, a soulful backup chorus and jazzy guitar riffing. I love that Mowery says “throw away your drum machines” when that’s what he’s using!
Switching moods again, “Back to You” sets a smoky, longing mood with some of that Rod Stewart sincerity. Acoustic piano, swooping bass and restrained beats surround the romantic lead vocals and the heartache-heavy lyrics. “Lonesome Happy Hairlip” is a very funny title for a Dr. John-like blues romp. Love the line: “I got this lonesome happy hairlip, and a cowlick I ain’t seen / I’ve seen better days, they sure ain’t seen me.” Hands-down some of the funniest lyrics on the album. “I Thank You” is a cover version of the Sam & Dave tune, and it’s a good version of a great song featuring one of Mowery’s best vocals.
“Daughter’s Eyes” is an emotional killer, a folky divorce tune in the vein of “You Better Sit Down, Kids.” It’s so emotionally rough that I barely want to listen, but that’s not because of the music, which is based on Gordon Lightfoot-esque acoustic picking and pedal steel. “Jesus (In My Soul)” concludes the album with a Stomp-like rhythm section and a church choir that may well be Mowery and nobody else. Great rhythmic acoustic guitar and testimonial vocals here. Just two minutes long, but a rousing finish.
Mowery still got the goods, even after filling up 22 albums full of mostly original songs. Go see what he’s all about!

Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2000:
"Hurricane" Jay LaBoy and In Step are truly great musicians, and their bebut CD, Step Aside, is not only a tribute to their influences but a testament of their skill and talent. Jay has come a long way from his hopeful beginnings, and his hard work and dedication to the music rings loud and clear in his astonishing guitar playing, as well as his singing. Michael Quintero-Moore lends a wonderful flavor with his bass and his vocals, especially in his delightfully enjoyable song "i ain't cryin' (i got my money in my shoe)". And no band would be complete without a great drummer, a job which Glenn Webb lives up to. With all original songs, this CD truly shows the greatness of this excellent band of musicians (though seeing them live is, indeed, a greater proof), and is a treat for even those typically not blues fanatics.

Australian indie rock band the Griswolds became an overnight sensation in their homeland with their catchy tunes, laid-back style, and party-hearty philosophy. Named after Chevy Chase's hapless family in the Vacation movies, the Griswolds were formed in 2012 by singer Christopher Whitehall, guitarist Daniel Duque-Perez, bassist Tim John, drummer Chris Riley, and keyboardist Lachlan West. The group came together after Whitehall and Duque-Perez began working up song ideas together, and one sounded good enough that they thought it deserved a band to play and record it. They had already begun work on their debut EP when they came up with the name the Griswolds, so when they finished recording the song "Mississippi," they wasted no time posting it online. The song was promptly embraced by music bloggers. Radio soon followed, and Australian radio powerhouse Triple J put "Mississippi" into regular rotation; it would become their most played song of 2012. After their debut EP, Heart of a Lion, climbed the Australian charts, the Griswolds proved they had the live show to back up their skills in the studio, playing memorable sets at the Big Day Out, Parklife, and Homebake festivals, and making their first forays into Europe. In May 2013, the Griswolds made their American debut with a show in Brooklyn, New York, and they were signed by Wind-Up Records, which issued the EP in the United States as "Mississippi" made its way onto the college radio charts. In early 2014, the Griswolds went into the studio with producer Tony Hoffer to start work on their first full-length album. Be Impressive arrived in August 2014 and cracked the Billboard 200. An acoustic EP of Be Impressive tracks followed the next year. Their sophomore LP, High Times for Low Lives, arrived in late 2016. The effort was produced by Grammy winner Andrew Dawson (Kanye West, Pet Shop Boys) and featured the single "Out of My Head." ~ Mark Deming

Two for the Blues - Closing Time

 3. Back to the City - 3:38
 4. School of the Blues - 2:58
 5. Talk to Me - 4:39
 6. Wrap Up my Heart - 4:38

Closing Time is the first joint project by Chicago Blues and Soul man, L.C.Walker, and veteran blues guitarist, Tom Crivellone. After meeting on-stage at Buddy Guy's Legends, this duo forged a creative partnership which inspired Closing Time, as well as several other projects with Chicago-area artists. On October 17, 2005, L.C.Walker passed away without tasting the success he worked for and dreamed about. "You can't just play the blues", L.C. used to say, "you live your life, experience your blues, and hope you can make people feel them when you play and sing". Visitors to Chicago know it as the Blues Capital of the World. Behind the neon lights and hot licks is a tough town where hundreds of hungry musicians battle for recognition and work in a shrinking number of clubs that seem to pay less and less every year. Blending a wide range of musical influences with traditional formats, L.C.Walker and Tom Crivellone give listeners a glimpse into the lives of working bluesmen that listeners should find both refreshing and inspiring. The lyrics for the title track, "Closing Time", talk about the loneliness of the blues lifestyle, and was written shortly before the death of L.C.'s mother. "Nightshift" is the second of two lyrics written by L.C. as a tribute to the thousands of people in every town who work the odd shifts that keep everything running smoothly for the rest us. The lyrics for "Back to the City" were inspired and co-written by Tom's friend, Ray Tuccio, an East Coast bluesman. Sometimes, it takes being away for a while to realize that you need to go "back to Chicago where I belong". Anyone who has been to a blues jam at Legends, B.L.U.E.S, Kingston Mines, or any of the downtown clubs in Chicago can tell you that the scene is a lot like a wild west gunfight. Guitar and harp slingers come from literally all over the world for their chance to make a mark on a windy city stage. "School for the Blues"is about the conflict between their ambition, and reality. "Talk to Me" is about the loss of passion between a stay-at-home spouse and a not-so-faithful wife. "Wrap up my Heart" was originally written by Tom as a gift for his wife after realizing, once again, that he could not afford a holiday gift that could represent the love and gratitude he felt for her. No matter what the topic, all of the music maintains the same driving, soulful rhythm that makes Chicago the Blues capital of the World, and makes Closing Time a CD worth owning. Guest appearances on this CD by Tom Albanese (harp), Steve Parker (keys), Jennifer and Sherrill Crivellone (vocals)/

Charles Wilson is an exciting and captivating performer capable of launching an audience into a frenzy. Born in Chicago, Wilson is connected to the roots of the blues tree. From the age of four, Wilson, the nephew of blues legend Little Milton, would go with his father to see Uncle Milton’s performances. Wilson released a string of albums starting in the late ’80s for Ichiban and Ecko Records. If Heartaches Were Nickels is Wilson’s first Delmark album and in addition to Milton, Carl Weathersby provides lots of excellent guitar playing. Like all great soul singers, Wilson expresses pleading vulnerability and like the great blues singers Wilson delivers the grit. If the blues are to remain a vital presence on the world stage and continue to develop as an art form in this new century, it will not be because of the legions of generic guitar slingers who endlessly repeat the great riffs of the original masters and imitate one another endlessly in order to display the most clichéd stage show. Indeed it will because there are singers like native Chicagoan cum Mississippi Delta bluesman Charles Wilson. He has long been a fixture on the chitlin circuit and is familiar to African-American audiences across the States. Indeed, this is his 11th release on his fourth label. As good as some of those recordings were, none of them holds a candle to If Heartaches Were Nickels. Indeed it is on this side where new directions for the blues can be found; the interesting thing is that those new vistas are found in its most classic and earthy approaches. Wilson's album is a step away from the slickness of modern production and sterile overwrought performances trying to substitute acumen for soul. The 15 cuts here drip with soul. Wilson's delivery is straight from the belly and sees the heavens. If one can hear the traces of singers like Bobby "Blue" Bland, Z.Z. Hill, and Sam Cooke in his voice, one can also hear Sam Moore and Wilson Pickett. Wilson understands that soul music and the blues are two sides of the same coin, and his band, led by the great guitarist Carl Weathersby on guitar, knows that arrangement and passion, not spit and polish, are what set a record apart. The sheer immediacy of this band, with its raw, gritty, souled-out blues backing a singer whose naturally effortless croon and growl evokes joy, sorrow, and assent in listeners is a combination that translates as well in a studio as it does on a stage. Check "Cut You a-Loose," Magic Sam's "You Belong to Me," "Losin' Boy," and the sheer deep blue-black title cut for reference. Add a horn section in the right places ("Doctor Doctor," "I Talk to Myself," and "Losin' Boy") and the presence of Wilson's uncle, blues legend Little Milton, on a pair of cuts ("Hattie Mae's" and "Lonely Man"), and you have a modern-day blues record that sounds like a classic blues album and just might be regarded that way some day. Wilson is at the top of his game here on Delmark, a label that was made for records like this. He is a singular talent that holds the key to the future evolution of the soul-blues in the grain of his voice.

Muddy Wallace Jr is a singer, songwriter and musician from the south side of Chicago IL, the home of the Chicago style blues. His love and appreciation for the blues came from his father who was's Chicago public school teacher and a singer from Memphis TN. Muddy Wallace Sr grew up very poor and had many trials and tribulations which were shared with his son, so when Muddy Wallace Jr came of age, he felt it was his responsibility to carry on the work, stories and spirit of the great blues men and women who came before him... Especially his father. 'Today, it seems there is such a disconnection with the current generation and our ancestors in America and even beyond. And I feel it is my call as a modern day blues musician to make sure my generation and the one that follows never forgets the stories and struggles of our people... Bridging the gap.' The Muddy Wallace Jr experience can be as big and exciting to fill the greatest ampitheater with a large ensemble of 7 or 8, an intimate setting with a small trio or anything in between. His sound is a modern, funky groove that brings in a new audience to the blues that may have been once disconnected, while keeping the purity of it's foundation that longtime fans of the genre relate to. It is certain from his shows and listening events, that Muddy Wallace Jr.'s music has a broad appeal from blues/jazz, r&b/hip-hop, urban and suburban adult contemporary, pop/rock, alternative and maybe even country. His demographic covers mostly from 25-50, while still appealing to a broader range of listeners. With a youthful perspective and a deep understanding of his roots, Muddy Wallace Jr is definitely the artist to bring fathers and sons & mothers and daughters together, connecting us all with our past while ushering us into the future.
