Closing Time is the first joint project by Chicago Blues and Soul man, L.C.Walker, and veteran blues guitarist, Tom Crivellone. After meeting on-stage at Buddy Guy's Legends, this duo forged a creative partnership which inspired Closing Time, as well as several other projects with Chicago-area artists. On October 17, 2005, L.C.Walker passed away without tasting the success he worked for and dreamed about. "You can't just play the blues", L.C. used to say, "you live your life, experience your blues, and hope you can make people feel them when you play and sing". Visitors to Chicago know it as the Blues Capital of the World. Behind the neon lights and hot licks is a tough town where hundreds of hungry musicians battle for recognition and work in a shrinking number of clubs that seem to pay less and less every year. Blending a wide range of musical influences with traditional formats, L.C.Walker and Tom Crivellone give listeners a glimpse into the lives of working bluesmen that listeners should find both refreshing and inspiring. The lyrics for the title track, "Closing Time", talk about the loneliness of the blues lifestyle, and was written shortly before the death of L.C.'s mother. "Nightshift" is the second of two lyrics written by L.C. as a tribute to the thousands of people in every town who work the odd shifts that keep everything running smoothly for the rest us. The lyrics for "Back to the City" were inspired and co-written by Tom's friend, Ray Tuccio, an East Coast bluesman. Sometimes, it takes being away for a while to realize that you need to go "back to Chicago where I belong". Anyone who has been to a blues jam at Legends, B.L.U.E.S, Kingston Mines, or any of the downtown clubs in Chicago can tell you that the scene is a lot like a wild west gunfight. Guitar and harp slingers come from literally all over the world for their chance to make a mark on a windy city stage. "School for the Blues"is about the conflict between their ambition, and reality. "Talk to Me" is about the loss of passion between a stay-at-home spouse and a not-so-faithful wife. "Wrap up my Heart" was originally written by Tom as a gift for his wife after realizing, once again, that he could not afford a holiday gift that could represent the love and gratitude he felt for her. No matter what the topic, all of the music maintains the same driving, soulful rhythm that makes Chicago the Blues capital of the World, and makes Closing Time a CD worth owning.
