Some stories cannot be told in fast-forward. They need the dust of the road, the glow of late-night lights, and the patience of passing years. The Berlin-based Americana outfit The Charcoal Sunset, led by singer, songwriter and frontman Juri Member, is writing exactly that kind of story. Since forming in 2007, the band has built a reputation as one of the most authentic hidden gems of the German roots scene. Their gift for atmospheric storytelling, handcrafted arrangements and emotional honesty did not go unnoticed: Rolling Stone honored them with “Demo of the Month,” and their early recordings drew enthusiastic praise from regional and national music critics alike. On stage, they proved their class supporting international acts such as The Avett Brothers and Seth Lakeman, demonstrating that Americana from Berlin can sound just as rooted, raw and compelling as anything coming out of Nashville or Austin. With “Souvenirs,” released on April 10, 2026, The Charcoal Sunset present their debut album on Bear Family Records®. A statement. A new beginning. And at the same time the distilled essence of years marked by departures, detours and artistic growth.Musically, the band confidently moves between Americana, folk, blues and roots rock - with an intensity and narrative depth that need not shy away from comparisons to artists like Ryan Bingham, Lucinda Williams or The Avett Brothers. Warm guitars, organic arrangements and a production that breathes the spirit of analogue days create a sound that feels timeless yet firmly grounded in the present.Nine of the album’s ten tracks are original compositions written by Juri Member. His songs speak of departure and loss, of memories that linger and roads that only reveal their meaning in hindsight. Each track carries his unmistakable signature - poetic, direct and free of affectation.
