Clarence and Curtis Butler are two longtime beacons on the Detroit-area blues scene, and with two recorded albums for the London-based JSP Records. The brothers' albums for JSP include Pursue Your Dreams (1996) and Not Gonna Worry About Tomorrow (1995).
Guitarist Clarence and harmonica player Curtis Butler grew up near W.C. Handy's birthplace of Florence, Alabama, about 30 miles from the Mississippi Delta. They took their earliest musical cues from their father, guitarist Willie "Butch" Butler, who was famous in the region but never recorded.
The twins moved to Detroit in the 1960 and quickly found work in Motor City auto plants. The club scene at the time was booming, with the music of John Lee Hooker, Little Sonny, Bo Collins, Bobo Jenkins and dozens of others spilling out of the city's juke joints. The twins continued working and sitting in as much as they could, but by the late 1960s, the blues scene in Detroit had dried up. Civil unrest and the rise of the Motown sound didn't leave much room for a flourishing blues scene, but by the early 1980s, when the blues began a resurgence again nationally, the Butler Twins were still on the scene. More importantly, they were celebrated as survivors and veterans.
The Twins died in 2003 and 2004 never having any more opportunities come their way. But the albums live on, and if you like rough, tough ‘they don’t make albums like that anymore’ music then this is for you…~ John Stedman/

It was undoubtedly the Texan singer Calvin Russell (1948–2011)—with whom he collaborated as a songwriter and producer on the album *Dawg Eat Dawg* (2009)—who sparked a new musical direction for the Parisian Manu Lanvin. The sharp turn taken after Russell’s passing marked the beginning of Lanvin’s solo career and the release of his own albums. Between 2000 and 2007, the emphasis of his first three albums (*Venir au Monde* [2000], *Les Temps Mauvais* [2005], and *Faible Humain* [2007]) was primarily on rock. With the power trio Devil Blues, Manu Lanvin finally found the path that suited him perfectly. Following their debut *Mauvais Casting* (2012), things moved at breakneck speed, opening doors for this bluesman and his band. *Grand Casino* is a pure Blues 'n' Roll album featuring prestigious friends—such as Taj Mahal, Beverly Jo Scott, Johnny Gallagher, and Popa Chubby—answering the call of "the Devil." *Grand Casino* is Manu Lanvin’s seventh album overall—and his fourth with Devil Blues—following *Blooze, Booze & Rock’N’Roll* (2016). The album is remarkable in its own right, thanks to its special guests; no fewer than Taj Mahal ("So Come Down"), Beverly Jo Scott ("The Devil Does It Right"), and Popa Chubby (covering Willie Dixon's "Spoonful") joined Manu "the Devil" Lanvin for the project. Since forming the Blues Kings in Kansas City in 1956, Van Buren went on to release several albums, including We Will Be Together Again, which made NPR’s Top 20 list, It’s All Over, I Ain’t Doin’ Too Bad and 2004’s Live at the Kasbah, which featured saxophonist Richie Cole. Since 1996, the Colorado Rockies have used Van Buren’s “James’ Baseball Song” as the team’s anthem. Van Buren also performed with legends like T. Bone Walker, Big Joe Turner and Lou Rawls.
“James is as original in his song as Joe Williams or Billie Holiday,” famed jazz guitarist Phil Upchurch once said. “The other thing I like about his style is that you can hear him smiling.”
Diamond says Van Buren was a classy guy and a passionate guy who cared about the music and cared about the people. “He always wanted to be great for everybody and do a great job and do a great performance,” Diamond adds. “He was a one-of-a-kind guy. Between doing his jazz and his blues, he was always an advocate for people’s causes.”

Vincent Bucher's Hometown is a raw, soulful ride through modern blues. With gritty harmonica solos and heartfelt vocals, this 2014 album blends acoustic charm and electric energy. Vincent Bucher's Hometown (2014) is a bluesy, low-key ride through dusty roads and late-night thoughts. Recorded at Fish Ranch Studio, this album feels like it was made with more heart than budget - which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Bucher handles vocals and harmonica throughout, backed by a small crew of multi-talented musicians including Jérémie Tepper on guitars and Marten Ingle handling co-production and some lyrics. What stands out first is the rawness. No glossy sheen here, just gritty textures and honest performances. Tracks like "I'm Gone" and "Cheers & Handshakes" have that slow-burn blues feel that pulls you in without trying too hard. Bucher's harmonica playing is solid, never flashy but always present, weaving through the songs like a background narrator. The title track "Hometown" has a nostalgic vibe that hits close to home, even if you've never been there. The production leans lo-fi, which works for the genre but might turn off listeners looking for crystal-clear studio polish. Some tracks blend together a bit, especially in the middle, where the mood stays consistently mellow. Not a huge variety in tempo or tone across the 10-song lineup, but maybe that's the point - it's a cohesive listen, like one long evening of music around a campfire. One minor gripe: the album clocks in at just over 40 minutes. While not too short, it leaves you wanting more - not because it ends on a high note, but because some tracks feel underdeveloped. Still, the simplicity is part of its charm. Odd thought: listening to Hometown made me realize how rare it is to hear an album that doesn't try to impress with technical perfection. It's flawed, sure, but it's also real. Like finding a used vinyl in a thrift store - slightly scratched, but full of soul.

Miss Erica Brown is a Singer, Songwriter, Recording Artist and Actress based in Denver, CO. She has been singin’ the blues all her life and has truly seen and lived the Blues. As she shares her gifts with the world, the world has taken notice, from publications like Living Blues and Chicago Blues Guide in the US to Blues Matters in the UK, and Rootstime in Belgium. 
Erica has long been a mainstay in Colorado’s Music scene.  From 1998-2008, as frontwoman for the Award-winning Erica Brown Band, Erica electrified audiences all over the Rocky Mountain region with the band’s brand of searing blues rock. The band won nearly every award the region offered, including Best Blues Band (Westword Magazine) Best Underground Blues Band (Denver Post, multiple years) and The Rocky Mountain News’ Best of in the Blues Category. The band released two critically acclaimed CD’s, “Body Work” in 2000, and “Rough Cut Stone” in 2003. Erica was dubbed “Denver’s Queen of the Blues”, a moniker that was used by the Altitude Network in their concert showcase feature “OnStage”, which was broadcast to five million households in ten western states in 2005. 
In 2008, Erica began her Solo career.
In 2013, Dan Treanor’s Afrosippi Band featuring Erica Brown garnered 3rd Place Honors in the International Blues Challenge (IBC) sponsored by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN.  That year, over two hundred bands competed in what is the premier competition for blues bands worldwide. 
In 2016, Erica was contacted by Grammy-nominated Bluesman Carl Gustafson, (Blinddog Smokin’ Blues Band) and was asked to contribute vocals to a project he was producing, along with 2017 Grammy Winner in Traditional Blues, Blues Man Bobby Rush. That project has blossomed into the epic music novel “MOJA: A Music Saga”, the story of Rush’s family, the Ellis Family. Erica voices Bobby’s Rush’s ancestress on the song “She Did What She Had to Do.”  Artists from around the world have contributed to this incredible telling of an important African and American Story.
Along with Rush on harmonica, a fraction of the other musicians on the project include “The 500” (the 500 musicians and artists on this incredible Project!!) Blues Woman Teeny Tucker (daughter of Tommy Tucker, writer of the 1963 Hit “Hi Heel Sneakers”), Ms. Tata Vega (the “musical voice” of the character “Shug” in the movie The Color Purple), gospel vocalists The McCrary Sisters, 2020 US Artists Fellow Dom Flemons, Harmonica Master Billy Branch, vocalist Natalie Cadet, famed gospel, rock, blues, jazz and funk B-3 organist Cory Henry, along with Mississippi Hill Country blues (and sons of R.L. Burnside) brothers Gary and Duwayne Burnside, Blues Guitar master Lightnin’ Malcolm, African Folklorist and master Djembe player Weedie Braimah, West African Ngoni Master Bassekou Kouyate, Cuban drummer Pedrito Martinez, multi-instrumentalist Fabian Chavez, guitarist George Dez, and scores more Artists!! The massive, 8-volume project released in early 2022, in individual Volumes. 
Erica has been awarded Colorado’s Five Points Jazz Festival’s Tribute Award for significant and lasting contributions to music and culture in the historically African-American Five Points Neighborhood, and throughout Colorado!

In 2016, what would become a double page “Center-Magazine-Splash” photo of Erica taken during the Women In Blues Showcase by Superstar Photographer Danny Clinch was featured in Smithsonian Magazine’s Historic September 2016 companion issue for the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington DC.  Attendees of the Museum opening on September 24, 2016 included a Dedication by then-President Barack Obama.  Erica is deeply honored to be included in such a special Smithsonian issue.  
Erica has been featured in a number of stage productions throughout her career.  In 2018 Erica took a star turn as the character Nancy Foster in Emancipation Theater Company’s World Premiere of its’ inaugural stage production Honorable Disorder. The show received rave reviews from multiple publications, including the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA).

Blues/jazz guitarist Phil Upchurch hit the nail on the head when he compared vocalist James Van Buren's interpretation skills to those of Joe Williams and Billie Holiday. Even better, Upchurch's "you can hear him smiling" captures the vocalist's warm sound, a sound that's had artists like Lou Rawls, T-Bone Walker, and Irene Reid seek out Van Buren for collaborations. Born in Arrow Rock, Missouri, Van Buren started sharing his love of blues and jazz with the public in 1956 when he formed the Blues Kings in Kansas City. He was amused when a European reporter called him an "archeological find" in the '90s, since he had been a hard touring, popping-up-here-and-there sideman (often as a drummer) since starting the Blues Kings. Colorado jazz and blues fans got to know him well when he made Denver his new home but everyone else didn't get to hear much of the man until 1985 when Van Buren formed his own label and released his debut, We Will Be Together Again. It's All Over followed and made NPR's Top 20 list, but it was 1989's I Ain't Doin' Too Bad and its "Three Handed Woman" (left-handed, right-handed, underhanded) that took the singer to the next level. Fans at the 1992 Utrecht Jazz Festival in Holland caused a commotion when they vigorously chanted for the song, and Van Buren has been successful on the European tour circuit ever since. From 1996 on, the Colorado Rockies baseball team have used Van Buren's "James' Baseball Song" as their anthem. In 2004 he released Live at the Kasbah with special guest Richie Cole. ~ David Jeffries

This is Boom Band's debut CD after pairing down from the 12-member R&B ensemble known as This Is It, which toured East Coast clubs and colleges in the early '90s. Boom Band is a name inspired by Dr. Suess' Oh, the Places You'll Go! This 14-song self-released collection was produced by Blues Traveler producer David Swanson (Save His Soul, Live From the Fall). 
April 21 street date. The Boom Band is a collective of multi-award-winning musicians who have all emerged from the British blues scene with reputations as first-class players, singers and songwriters. The five core band members, Jon Amor (The Hoax/solo), Marcus Bonfanti (solo/Ten Years After), Mark Butcher (solo/former England cricket hero!), Paddy Milner (solo/Jack Bruce/Phil Manzenera) and Matt Taylor (Snowy White Blues Project/The Motives). What started as a fun knockabout side project has manifested itself as an excellent debut album, with each member contributing songs, playing solid supporting roles, taking their turn as front-man and shining as solo instrumentalists. The material ranges from the joyous southern rock of Taylors We Can Work Together, the dirty blues of Bonfantis Diamonds in the Rust the smooth soul of Butchers Under the Skin to the radio-friendly country-pop of Sweet Alberta. Live, the unique four-guitar line-up provides the audience with a rich variety of sounds and styles, Paddy Milners piano and Hammond organ being the icing on the cake. The Booms played a number of key gigs in 2014 including dates in London, the main stage at RibsnBlues Festival in Holland, a headline spot at the Carlisle Rock & Blues Festival and as the house band for BBC Radio 2s Paul Jones annual charity concerts where they backed Van Morrison as well as performing in their own right. 2015 will see them performing at more and bigger festivals in the UK and beyond, including confirmed bookings at Maryport Blues Festival (main stage headline) and one of Europes biggest blues festivals Moulin Blues (NL). The deluxe edition eponymous CD features ten tracks of the album proper, plus four extra acoustic tracks from The Boom Guitars - that is an acoustic session from Jon, Marcus, Butch and Matt plus a 24 page booklet featuring liner notes from music writer Jamie Hailstone, detailed track info and song lyrics.
