A massive, creative UFO spotted in the Belgian sky! At the controls—bare-assed—are the four intrepid souls from Namur! Holy cow, this time our little Buttnaked crew has really shaken up the blues scene. It took some serious guts to churn out a second album sitting right at the crossroads of pop, blues, and funk!
Marc Bodart, Patrick Louis, and company deliver a knockout blow! A delicate, slender voice paired with a warm, soulful one, backed by two lead guitarists whose playing is as finely crafted as it is breathtaking!
The material drifts across various musical styles—Hispanic, Jamaican, funk, folk, rock, and even Dutch influences—all torn up and reassembled here and there. It all stews in a blues sauce, then comes together with skill and maturity! The result is an unexpected brand of blues-rock that absolutely rocks and breaks free from the mold.
You might ask: are we still in the realm of the blues? Rest assured, there is no doubt about the source of their influences. The framework is there—solid and undeniably bluesy! *The Big Splash* leaves an impression of playful, yet expertly mastered improvisation, driven by a solid rhythm section and brilliant, prominent guitars.
