Mark Reed was born in Uniontown Pennsylvania, a small coal-mining town in western Pennsylvania. After seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show he knew what he wanted to be. He got his first guitar at the age of 10 and has been immersed in the music field ever since. After spending the first few years learning his instrument he played his first professional gig at the age of 13. From there the music bug was firmly planted in him. After moving from Pennsylvania in 1969 to the Washington D.C. area to attend Suitland Sr. High School in Suitland Maryland. This is where his level of playing blossomed. He played in many area bands throughout his high school years such as Phoenix, The Boyzz, Teaser, Hot Ice and this is where he met blues sensation Gregg Wright. Mark and Gregg played together on and off for about 2 years. Gregg had a profound influence on Mark and his music and musical direction. A few years out of high school Mark began doing session work at some of the local recording studios in the D.C. metro area and this where he got the nick name Strings. His style was very tasteful with a penchant for very fast fingering. Some of his other influences were Albert King, B.B. King, Willie Dixon, Buddy Guy and the newer breed of blues guitarists like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Bonamassa and of course Gary Moore. Drawing from all of these great players Mark honed his guitar playing into what it is today, raw, powerful and creative.
