The band was formed in Texas by guitarist-vocalist Craig DeFalco and slide guitarist Buzzy James in 1990. They performed at many club concerts with a changing line-up for several years, before the final group was formed at the end of the nineties. Southern rock dominated their music, but AOR rock (the melodic branch of hard rock) can also be discovered in it. Lynyrd Skynyrd was their favorite, it's no coincidence that they played similar music, only with softer sounds. In 1996, the DeFalco-James duo was joined by drummer Darryll Miller from the Canadian band Killer Dwarfs, as well as bassist Michael Norton and singer Tommy Laidlaw, and that's when they adopted the name Laidlaw, until then they performed as the Craig DeFalco Band. They sent several recordings to various labels, but initially had no luck. The breakthrough came in 1998, when their five-track EP "Sample This" was released. Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx noticed the group and helped the band. They performed as a support band at several Mötley concerts, and Laidlaw's first LP was released on their own label in 1999, entitled "First Big Picnic". The album contained quite a few notes, it wasn't really a hit yet. There were also one or two very good songs on it, such as "Are You Living Your Dream" (it even reminds me of Neil Young a bit), or the slightly choppy "Nascar Superstar" with its good guitar parts. They also wrote a song called "Ode To Ronnie" in honor of Lynyrd Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant, who died in tragic circumstances. After the stagnant period at the beginning of the 2000s, their new album, "Laidlaw", was released in 2003, in which fresher sounds can also be discovered. They went to festivals one after another, they've been performing a lot ever since, and they're making records with a relatively stable quality. Towards the end of the first decade of the 2000s, they performed several times with their former role model Lynyrd Skynyrd. Although Laidlaw is not a world-famous band, it is one of the well-known southern rock bands in America.
