James Montgomery Blues Band - Bring It On Home

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2001
Time: 47:49
Size: 109,9 MB
Label: Conqueroot
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Sweet Sixteen - 4:04
 2. The Sleeper - 5:09
 3. Dimples - 2:53
 4. Back On My Knees Again - 5:09
 5. Lovin' Cup - 4:07
 6. Bring It On Home - 5:21
 7. Mona - 3:28
 8. Ramblin' Man - 4:25
 9. Juniors' Jump - 2:31
10. Wedding Ring - 6:28
11. Sinkin' Blues - 4:09

You could say Bring It on Home is Montgomery's most well-rounded album -- what with tracks by Lowell Fulson, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, and Hank Williams resting alongside Montgomery's own imitative compositions and traditional reworkings, but he's still pretty much a standard Saturday night bluesman. He plays competently and devotedly enough, but you've heard all this before from more capable and expressive artists.

Kenny Acosta and the House Reckers - Spanish Town Mardi Gras

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2005
Time: 33:02
Size: 76,0 MB
Label: Bluzman Records
Styles: Blues
Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. Black Drawers - 3:40
 2. Spanish Town Mardi Gras - 2:51
 3. Rajun Cajun - 3:11
 4. Call the Plumber - 4:52
 5. Ain't Heard Jack - 2:01
 6. Mojo - 3:15
 7. Linda Lou - 2:52
 8. Cocaine Blues - 3:20
 9. Time Bomb - 3:12
10. Woke Up This Morning - 3:45

Having played out of Austin, TX for many years, with the likes of Kim Wilson, W C Clark, and Stevie & Jimmy Vaughn, one might expect a different kind of sound from KENNY ACOSTA. However, it's very apparent that, although he can be diversified, he never strayed far from those Delta roots. On "SPANISH TOWN MARDI GRAS", it's quite evident where this Baton Rouge native is from.
Anyone who has ever had a bowl of gumbo knows that it's a perfect blend of many different ingredients. KENNY'S music is no different. This discs main ingredients are several very well done covers and several very well written originals spiced up with a hint of island fare, pinches of funk, dashes of blues, splashes of jazz, spoonfuls of soul and lots of good ol' Cajun hot stuff.
The people responsible for this very tasteful creation are KENNY ACOSTA on guitar and vocals, JOE EUNICE on bass, BRANDON COCKBURN on drums and JOE "BOY" MICELLI on percussion.
"SPANISH TOWN MARDI GRAS" opens with a very jazzy yet super soulful version of "BLACK DRAWERS". KENNY'S vocals, very reminiscent of a young Dr. John, and his very smooth, jazzy style of guitar, along with great effort from JOE on bass, clearly highlight this track.
The original title track, "SPANISH TOWN MARDI GRAS", picked me up from my desk and placed me in a seedy little cantina where I watched a scantily clad women, dancing to Flamenco music, attempt to seduce Ricardo Montalban. What a great song!
For the funk fans "RAJUN CAJUN" is all yours. This one is pretty much all about JOE MICELLI slapping the hell out of some congas, bongos and whatever else he can get those hot hands of his on. On the other hand, total blues freaks like me will just love "CALL THE PLUMBER". This is good old down home blues at it's best. KENNY'S vocals and blues guitar are the best they get on this one, another original.
Although he didn't write it, "LINDA LOU" is a perfectly written song for KENNY'S voice and singing style. He seems to really enjoy cutting loose on this one. This track, just shy of three minutes, could have pleasantly been twice the length. It seemed just as KENNY was peaking the track was ending.
"COCAINE BLUES" is another track which features KENNY'S smooth and soulful vocals and his great guitar playing. This is the kind of stuff you can listen to all day long and never tire of. JOE and BRANDON are both at their peak on this one as well.
Other great tracks on "SPANISH TOWN MARDI GRAS" are: "AIN'T HEARD JACK", "MOJO", "TIME BOMB" and "WOKE UP THIS MORNING".
KENNY ACOSTA AND THE HOUSE RECKERS are one of those bands that love being on the road. If you live anywhere in the South Eastern part of the United States, do as I recently did and catch his live act. You can view his schedule, and buy a few of his CD's at www.kennyacosta.com. While you're there, tell the BLUZMAN that the BLEWZZMAN sends his love.

A slide guitarist with a passion for the blues and the hard-hitting sound of a rocker, Mark "Porkchop" Holder first made his name as a member of the raw and rollicking punk-blues trio the Black Diamond Heavies. Holder joined the Black Diamond Heavies in 2004, and appeared on their debut EP, You Damn Right. By 2006, Holder had left the band to strike out on his own, and he traveled across the country and around the globe playing ferocious slide guitar in a one-man-band format. Years of touring took a toll on Holder, and after years of struggle with depression and chemical dependence issues, he returned to his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee to focus on his health and getting a fresh start. In 2016, Holder began gigging locally with a new backing band he called MPH, featuring Travis Kilgore on bass and backing vocals and Doug Bales on drums. Holder wasted no time taking the band into the studio, and in February 2017 Holder released his first solo album, Let It Slide, via Alive Naturalsound Records.

For most of the time since his last album, he's been an actor (stage, film and television) including a role in the sci-fi cult classic, Space 1999, and a radio presenter on the BBC. Jones is best know to music fans outside the UK as the lead singer of Manfred Mann's hits like "Do Wah Diddy," and "Pretty Flamingo". He's also fronted The Blues Band (they have 17 albums to their credit since their founding in 1979!) and The Manfreds (which features most of the original members of Manfred Mann). He even co-composed the signature tune for Ready, Steady, Go!
The disc is released in the US by Collector's Choice Music and distributed in the UK and Europe by Continental Record Services of The Netherlands.
Produced by Carla Olson, Jones' studio band includes guitarist Jake Andrews, drummer Alvino Bennett, Tony Marisco on bass and Mike Thompson on keyboards. Eric Clapton joins him on two tracks "Choose Or Cop Out," and the title track, "Starting All Over Again." The disc also includes a cover of Van Morrison's "Philospher's Stone.". Soul singing legend Percy Sledge also guests on "Big Blue Diamonds." This track was initially released on Sledge's 2004 solo CD, "Shining Through The Rain."
In 1966, Paul Jones and Eric Clapton - along with Pete York, Steve Winwood, Ben Palmer and Jack Bruce - were part of the studio one-off band, The Powerhouse. A few of the tracks were released on What's Shakin'.

'Sit Back Down' - An original of Paul's and featuring his rockin' harmonica. 'Beggar For The Blues' - Joe Bonamassa contributes lead guitar to this Patti Drew classic. 'Brother Where Are You' - This Oscar Brown Jr tune has been covered by many artists including Abbey Lincoln, Johnny Rivers and Thee Midnighters, this version features Little Willie G of Thee Midniters on backup vocals! 'Don't Go To Strangers' - This pop/jazz standard has been cut by many artists including Etta Jones, Arthur Prysock, Etta James and J.J. Cale. Paul's version is stunningly beautiful. 'Remember Me' - Jools Holland wrote this one and Todd Wolfe contributes some dirty delta slide courtesy of his resonator guitar. 'Soul To Soul' - A latter day Temptations anthem with trumpet, sax and trombone, Gregg Sutton's background vocals and guitar by former Bee Gee Vince Melouney. 'Trouble In Mind' - Another standard, here performed by Paul and Jools. 'Straighten Up & Fly Right' - When first hearing this Nat King Cole tune you will think you stumbled into a big band concert hall. 'I'm On My Way To A Better' - The Chairmen Of The Board hit reaches a new a plateau of happiness and glory. Again with Little Willie G on background vocals. 'Above & Beyond' - A full band instrumental jam closes the show.

Vinyl LP pressing. 2017 release. The Hooten Hallers have been busting vans and playing blurry back room bars for a decade but on their self-titled album they come out swinging with new life and a healthy balance of freneticism and focus. Having toured for years as a garage-blues duo, the band has recently evolved to include baritone saxophone player Kellie Everett, who has had stints recording and gigging with the likes of Pokey Lafarge, J.D. Wilkes, The Legendary Shack Shakers and William Elliott Whitmore. Everett's background in jazz standards and music theory are spliced with the unhinged showmanship that have built the Hooten Hallers' rapidly growing national following to create an album that can be at times be wild, in your face, party music while still leaving space for a tender ballad with soul and classic country influence. This type of versatility has allowed The Hooten Hallers to expand their already varied audience. It's not uncommon to walk into one of their shows to see outlaw bikers dancing next to some college kids dancing next to an aging hippie or a couple of parents whose kids are at home with the babysitter. This album, recorded in a repurposed Masonic temple owned by Johnny Walker of the garage-blues band the Soledad Brothers, features contributions from Ryan Koenig (Pokey LaFarge, Jack Grelle) and was produced by Kristo Baricevic of Big Muddy Records.

Very few musical artists achieve a true signature style -- one that makes comparisons to other musicians impossible. But Texas guitarist Eric Johnson arguably comes as close to this echelon as any musician from the past quarter-century. Like fellow Lone Star State guitarists Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnson blends the rock style of Jimi Hendrix and the blues power of Albert King. Yet Johnson's wide array of additional influences (from the Beatles and Jeff Beck to jazz and Chet Atkins) makes for a guitar sound as unique as his fingerprints.
"When I first heard Eric," Winter recalled, "he was only 16, and I remember wishing that I could have played like that at that age." Former Doobie Brothers guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter said, "If Jimi Hendrix had gone on to study with Howard Roberts for about eight years, you'd have what this kid strikes me as." The Austin prodigy appeared on the cover of Guitar Player magazine while working with Texas jazz/fusion band the Electromagnets and as a session player (Cat Stevens, Carole King, Christopher Cross), and a 1984 performance on the TV show Austin City Limits set his recording career in motion.
Johnson's 1986 debut album, Tones, certainly proved that the hype was warranted. Playing with the ace rhythm section of bassist Roscoe Beck and drummer Tommy Taylor, Johnson mixed blazing instrumentals ("Zap," "Victory") with Beatles-influenced vocal tunes like "Emerald Eyes" and "Bristol Shore." Johnson used the same half-and-half format on his 1990 follow-up, Ah Via Musicom, but a trio of the album's tunes surprisingly made him the first artist to have three instrumentals from the same album to chart in the Top Ten in any format (with "Cliffs of Dover" earning Johnson a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental).
But, if Johnson had a perceived weakness, it was the perfectionism that caused four years to pass between recordings. Even in concert, he would painstakingly tune his guitar between songs, by ear, for minutes on end. With the success of Ah Via Musicom, the guitarist admitted to feeling pressure to raise the bar again. But Johnson's studio nitpicking delayed Venus Isle until 1996, and the disappointing CD contained fewer instrumentals and sounded forced.
A stint on the 1997 G3 tour with fellow headlining guitarists Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and its resulting live release, breathed new life into Johnson and sparked the idea of a live album. Overhauling his band for the 2000 CD Live and Beyond, Johnson brought in bassist Chris Maresh and drummer Bill Maddox, and concentrated on more of a blues feel. The guitarist still blended instrumentals with his vocal tunes ("Shape I'm In," "Last House on the Block"), but perhaps realized that his thin voice was too one-dimensional for guttural blues or R&B. Guest vocalist Malford Milligan ignited "Don't Cha Know" and "Once a Part of Me," helping Johnson's blazing debut on Vai's Favored Nations label and reestablishing the versatile virtuoso's status for the 21st century. As Vai himself testified, "Eric has more colorful tone in his fingers than Van Gogh had on his palette."
Souvenir, an album available only through Johnson's website, appeared in 2002, followed by CD and DVD versions of New West's Live from Austin, TX and Bloom, the second album for Vai's Favored Nations imprint, in 2005. Johnson returned in 2010 with Up Close, a studio album that slightly emphasized the guitarist's Texas roots. A collaboration with jazz guitarist Mike Stern, Eclectic, appeared in 2014. Two years later, Johnson released EJ, his first-ever all-acoustic album, which he supported with a solo tour. ~ Bill Meredith

Heaven & Earth is rockin’ Americana & hill country blues with melodic harmonies and rhythms that groove … turn it up and take a trip through southern America … here are some great songs of love, faith, friendship, wandering and longing and beauty. From the mountains of Appalachia to Biloxi, from Clarksdale and Otha Turner’s farm to Tupelo and then to the hills and mountains of Tennessee this work is in the true American songwriting tradition.
Some artists just cannot be kept down they are irrepressible. Their years of traveling the roads of the South, playing anywhere they can and writing and performing some of the best tunes that two people can possibly put together eventually will show even the best critics and record labels that they are truly a force to be reckoned with. So it is with Blue Mother Tupelo, the husband and wife team of Ricky & Micol Davis of Hendersonville, TN. With this CD, self-produced and laden with a couple of friends, they have made one of the finest CDs I have heard this year. For the blues fans out there you will take the Blues wherever you find it and realize that this music is true and, also, a product of the Southern fried tradition ... they are true indie singer-songwriters that have put forth a thing of beauty. I predict some great things for Blue Mother Tupelo. --Gary W. Miller, BluesSource.com (C) 2009
The end result is like a meal of homegrown vegetables -- technically, they're the same as the stuff you've eaten before that's come from a grocery store, but there's something so much fresher, so much more authentic, about ingesting something that's been lovingly cared for and hand-crafted. It's a slurry of sound from a grab-bag of Southern soil -- rich silt from the Mississippi Delta ... thick loam from the cotton fields of north Alabama ... wet peat from Louisiana ... red clay mud from East Tennessee. It's earthy and gritty and celebratory -- it's the sound of two people who aren't afraid to get that dirt beneath their nails, who recognize that callused hands and muddy jeans are hallmarks of a hard-working man or woman to be worn with pride. --Steve Wildsmith - The Maryville Daily Times (May 8, 2009)

I consider Ron Hacker as one of the best Deltablues/ Countryblues around. His sound is 100% down to earth, raw, intense, mean and hard to copy. Ron's unique. His guitar sound is unbelievable as is his slide technique. His cd's are must-haves to every selfrespecting blues fan. (c) Bluesfarm Rhinetown

Guitar virtuoso Danny Gatton was known for the incredibly wide stylistic range of his playing; based in rockabilly, Gatton's musical vocabulary included R&B, pop, country, rock, and jazz, all of which he could play effectively. Gatton began playing at age nine, joining his first band, the Lancers, three years later. In 1960, Gatton pursued a jazz direction when he joined the Offbeats, where pianist/organist Dick Heintze proved to be one of Gatton's biggest influences. The band broke up four years later, and Gatton moved to Nashville to get into session work; there he met Roy Buchanan, who briefly became his roommate and taught him more about his instrument of choice. Eventually, Gatton built a reputation as a top-notch guitarist around his native Washington, D.C., area through his club performances. He recorded an album with his backing band the Fat Boys titled American Music in 1975 and followed it with Redneck Jazz in 1978. The band on the latter featured steel guitarist Buddy Emmons, drummer Dave Elliott, and eventual longtime cohorts Evan Johns on vocals and rhythm guitar and John Previti on bass. Gatton's albums led to offers from other musicians to join their bands. Lowell George extended an invitation after leaving Little Feat, but was found dead two days later. Gatton wound up touring with country singer Roger Miller and rockabilly artist Robert Gordon, giving him national exposure and a growing cult among guitar fans, who traded bootlegs of Gatton concerts. Gatton returned to Washington, D.C., to be near his friends and family while playing up and down the East Coast with several bands and doing session work. When Gatton purchased an old farmhouse in need of expensive renovations in 1988, he decided to pursue his music career more seriously. He released his first solo album since 1978 the next year, Unfinished Business, which drew notices from several guitar-oriented magazines as well as Rolling Stone. Elektra Records signed him during the summer, and he made his major-label debut in 1991 with the tremendously varied instrumental album 88 Elmira St. 1992 saw Gatton's first straight-ahead jazz album, New York Stories, recorded for none other than Blue Note. Gatton toured the nation solo for the first time in 1993 in support of Cruisin' Deuces, but its lack of success, coupled with the departure of A&R man Howard Thompson from Elektra, spelled the end of Gatton's association with the label. Gatton returned to session work to pay the bills, but sustained a further blow when rhythm guitarist Billy Windsor died of a heart attack early in 1994. Gatton collaborated with organ virtuoso Joey DeFrancesco on Relentless in May and toured Europe during the summer. Sadly, on October 4, 1994, Gatton locked himself in his garage and shot himself. He left behind no explanation. ~ Steve Huey

10. Double Dippin - 3:08
11. Dark Corners Of My Mind - 7:25
12. Retribution - 5:01

Not many can channel the blues as Eric Gales can.  Neil Young might just call him Mr. Soul.  His supreme talent has graced the stage for over 20 years, a time now to celebrate the best of a man seething with the blues, the only way to truly capture him in all his might; Live.  He could appease a crowd for days on his rip-roaring solos alone, as his guitar seems to speak to him and all who will listen, forging a bond ever so potent.
Live is filled to the brim with hard-nosed solos and suave, passionate vocals.  Tracks such as “The Change in Me” and “Make it There” remind one of a ZZ Top style in their quick, gritty riffs.  Eric does not conform to one style, however.  One can hear the influence of greats Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughan, among others.  Songs “The Liar” and “Retribution” take a darker look into some of the regrets and demons Eric has dealt with in his life, the heavier riffs indicative of his trials and tribulations.  “The Wings of Rock and Roll” is a beautiful ballad woven with heavier segments, as if to show the rise and fall of an emotional rollercoaster, guided to reason on the wings of rock and roll.  While “Me and My Guitar” (gently weep) is a great symbol of the union Eric has with his instrument.  It is a powerful force and gateway to his mode of expression, and consequently, the enjoyment of all who have discovered his music.
The album flows nicely, with a mentality of hope as well as reflection, feeding off his inner strength to fend off the demons of his past, looking forward to what lies ahead.  The emotion Eric pours into each lick and soulful lyric makes this all the more resonating for the listener.
Eric Gales walks in stride with blues legends that walked before him.  This guy can really jam. Hard. When he runs away with a song, he doesn’t come back down.  His licks are pure, downright dirty blues, cool enough to simmer the flames of Hendrix’ guitar, just to ignite them once more.  But words won’t do Eric justice, as the music speaks for itself.

Cafe R&B are gaining a reputation as one of the greatest live bands there is. Their first two studio albums are critically acclaimed masterpieces of modern Blues, Soul, and Rock. With "Very Live" the band presents their first ever official live release. The double CD set features the incomperable vocals of 'ROACH' and her devistatingly tight band; Byl Carruthers, Stephen Klong , John Thomas, and Bobby Pickett. In this love letter to the blues they band tears through 12 songs to a packed house. You can feel the sweat.

Cafe R&B is a five-piece band from the Los Angeles area consisting of female singer Roach, guitarist Byl Carruthers, keyboardists John "JT" Thomas, Harry Cohen and Stevie Utstein, bassist Bobby Pickett, and drummer Don Swanson and Adam Gust.
Longtime music fans may remember lead singer "Roach" from her days fronting Los Angeles' "Roach and the White Boys" in the early 1980s. Critics in the U.S. and Europe have compared her hard-rocking vocals to the likes of Etta James, Tina Turner and Aretha Franklin. HITS Magazine declared: "Imagine Etta James riding a Harley out of an active volcano, and you'll have some vague inkling as to the vocal power..." Her producer/husband, Byl Carruthers, does amazing guitar work and writes the band's original material. When not producing music, he also produces and directs television shows - his credits include "Oprah," "Spy TV," and others. He’s also known as a walking encyclopedia of the blues, and has written liner notes for several blues compilations. Cafe R&B has passion for gritty, hard-hitting early blues and R&B. For the past ten years, Cafe R&B has honed their legendary live performance skills at venues and blues clubs throughout the U.S., such as the House of Blues and "Buddy Guy's Legends," the legendary San Francisco Blues Festival in 2005, Fire on the Mountain Blues Festival in '05, 06, and '07, and the Long Beach Blues Festival, Chicago Blues Festival 2010 just to name a few. In Europe, they have performed at jam-packed and sold-out residences in London, Barcelona and Paris. In May 2010 they headlined the 19.Grolsch Blues Festival in Schoeppingen/Germany and the Jazz Festival in Cloppenburg/Germany. In October 2009, 2010 and 2012 they performed on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise.

Yet after such a long gestating process for the writing, the recording was completed in just six days.” Having played Denver’s historic Red Rocks Amphitheater more than nineteen times with recent dates sold out this summer the band is part of the fabric of the Colorado music scene. A full run of fall tour dates will be announced shortly with more details to follow. The trio of Mohr, Nevin and Squires founded the band in 1986 in Boulder and quickly built a strong reputation in the local club circuit while attending University of Colorado. They formed their own Big Records to release their debut album Another Mayberry. The band became truly established with their platinum selling third LP Sister Sweetly in 1993 with the single “Bittersweet”, which remains a rock radio staple to this day. The band has released music steadily throughout the decades leading to their most recent release 2014’s Black Beehive. They have also released two live albums Live Monsters, Live at the Fillmore and 2015’s Live at Red Rocks 2016. The band has proudly controlled its own business dealings and marketing from the start, releasing 2007’s All the Love You Need via their fan email list. In 2011, they formed a new project under the name Big Head Blues Club recording two albums under the moniker. The first 100 Years of Robert Johnson celebrates the songs of the late blues great and features legends such as B. B. King, Charlie Musselwhite, Cedric Burnside, David “Honeyboy” Edwards, Hubert Sumlin, Ruthie Forster and Lightin’ Malcolm. Their second LP Way Down Inside: Songs of Willie Dixon is a tribute to Willie Dixon featuring Mud Morganfield, Billy Branch, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and Erica Brown. The album was produced by multiple Grammy winner Chris Goldsmith and Todd Park Mohr. The band has gone on to play shows under the name Big Head Blues Club moniker inviting some of the legends featured on the album to perform with them. Recently, the band composed the theme song to programs including NCIS: New Orleans and Swamp Wars. Their music has also been included in Contraband, The To Do List, Grudge Match, Garden Party, So You Think You Can Dance, and many more.

Magic Frankie is one of the most striking persons in the Dutch blues scene. He has made several blues albums in the past and he has developed a close relationship with B.B.King. Everytime when B.B. was playing in Holland, Magic Frankie was asked to open for him. During one of B.B.’s dutch shows Magic Frankie was invited on stage and they jammed together for almost half an hour!! Needless to say this was a big honour for the Dutchman, who always dressed himself in an outdated gangster outfit. Magic Frankie caught the attention of both press and audience, when he recorded the album 'Hearts In Sorrow' together with Kaz Lux, the singer of the legendary sixties band Brainbox. It was a semi-acoustic cd with laidback (country) blues.
His live album ‘Live Behind Bars’ was recorded before an audience of inmates during a tour of dutch prisons.

Gwyn Ashton was born in Wales and grew up in Adelaide, South Australia. His guitar playing was first inspired by musicians from the Australian scene, such as Chris Finnen, Kevin Borich and Ian Moss, along with favourites Chuck Berry, and Hank Marvin. In 1985, Gwyn moved to Sydney joining John Swan's band Swanee, and by 1986 he had teamed up with ex-Easybeats vocalist Stevie Wright and members of Jimmy Barnes's band. Malcom Young's nephew James played drums with Gwyn for a time and introduced him to Mal, who came to a few of Gwyn's gigs before resuming his tour dates with AC/DC. Gwyn spent most of the Eighties playing in almost every bar in Australia impressing many international musicians, including Mick Fleetwood, who sat in with Gwyn's band one late night in Adelaide.
Gwyn Ashton delivers a powerful yet bluesy Rock, with country and jazz influences. His guitar playing varies from the wild to the colourful or gentle, and offers a fantastic and diverse range of melodies. Each of his notes come alive with an uncommon touch, which mixes Blues techniques, sheer power and musical tradition from his country of origin. Gwyn Ashton, 38, displays his experience in his debut album, "Feel the Heat". This guitar virtuoso is one of the most promising talents of the new "classic" Rock scene, succeeding Albert Lee, Jimmy Page and Rory Gallagher. His power trio has opened in Australia for Rory Gallagher, Junior Wells, Steve Morse and Albert Lee and in Europe for Buddy Guy, Peter Green, and many others.

14. Mean Old World - 4:59
15. Ride On Josephine - 3:03

Van Morrison is set to return to his roots on new album 'Roll With The Punches'. A true great, Van The Man has pieced together a new 15 track album that blends R&B and soul gems with brand new material. Produced by Van Morrison himself, collaborators on the record include Chris Farlowe, Georgie Fame, Jeff Beck, Paul Jones and Jason Rebello. The album includes classics penned by T-Bone Walker, Bo Diddley, Little Walter, Mose Allison, given a new interpretation by the studio crew.
Van Morrison explains: "From a very early age, I connected with the blues. The thing about the blues is you don’t dissect it – you just do it. I’ve never over-analysed what I do; I just do it. Music has to be about just doing it and that’s the way the blues works – it’s an attitude. I was lucky to have met people who were the real thing – people like John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Witherspoon, Bo Diddley, Little Walter & Mose Allison. I got to hang out with them and absorb what they did. They were people with no ego whatsoever and they helped me learn a lot." "The songs on 'Roll With The Punches' - whether I’ve written them or not - they’re performance oriented. Each song is like a story and I’m performing that story. That’s been forgotten over years because people over-analyse things. I was a performer before I started writing songs and I’ve always felt like that’s what I do."

 8. Would I Be Right - 4:40
 9. Blues Is King - 5:57
10. Bluesology - 4:42
11. Kelly's Blues - 3:49

Sonny Black is a British guitarist whose style includes bows to Earl Hooker (Through Heaven’s Eyes), Joe Pass, Grant Green (Grant’s Groove), Fred Roulette, and even the Piedmont pickers (Raggin’ The Strings). There is a very clean, restrained, almost unplugged, late night feel to Heart and Soul and many of the original songs owe as much to jazz (Bluesology) as to blues (Checkin’ In). The Dukes provide wonderfully understated support with Bob Haddrell’s piano and B-3 leading the rhythm section, George Pearson on bass and Dino Cocchia on drums. Some horns occasionally sit in, but this is essentially a guitar-led quartet moving easily and comfortably through a wide range of blues, jazz and jazz/blues originals.

It has been two years since local garage blues band Johnny No released their debut “The Riviera Sessions, Vol. 1.” Time has brought about many changes to the group, including the addition of Caleb MacCartee on keyboard and Tarleton “T” McNab on bass. While the line-up may have changed, their unorthodox take on blues has not. They will showcase their latest batch of “Port City Ne’er-Do-Well Blues” with their upcoming sophomore effort “Modern Hymns for the Gentleman Loafer.” The industry-wide release for this album may be set for Feb. 25, but their local fans will have an opportunity to experience this album a month early at the album release party.
For their debut, the band travelled to Como, Miss., to record live in studio with Grammy winner Jimbo Mathus in his vintage Delta Recording Services studio. Johnny No kept things local for “Modern Hymns for the Gentleman Loafer.” For the entirety of 2013, the band laid down numerous tracks in their personal studio (Riviera Recording Studios). They also recruited Mobile’s PORTAL Studio to create the album’s memorable artwork. The end-result is a raucous collection of tracks that infuse blues-rock attitude with tent revival charisma.

Jerry McCain is for harmonica just what he's for guitar Link Wray and for piano Esquerita! A wildman. If you'll ever have a chance to meet an alien and this green lamp headed creature ask you the one million dollars question, "What's Rock & Roll you back-warded scum?" you should say, "Jerry McCain, Link Wray and Esquerita"! That's right. OK you should add next Bo, Chuck & Little Richard but we 're flapping our mouths now. Anyway, if you ever wondered by whom barfed the wildest sides and then putted on vinyl plastic, that's the unholy trinity!
Jerry "Boogie" McCain is a key figure for this devil's music. He speed-ed up the blues in a way that make them instantly and without knowing it, punk! On  the well known label of Excello created mayhem. The same thing happened and a little earlier for the Trumpet. And what I'm offering here it's a whirlwind bash. Raw as hell and bad to the bone. Don't know if the young Rolling Stones or Pretty Things have known then, Jerry. I'm pretty sure though that even if they knew him, they wouldn't want to touch their hands on. Cause he's DIRTY!
I used the word "punk" somewhere. That happened not only for the attitude of his music. McCain purchased and cut by himself with a cheap record machine (remember, we're talking about the 50s, OK?) his earlier tracks like the one that sent to Trumpet Records, Little Walter's "Crazy 'Bout You Baby". He took Uncle John's side on "Run, Uncle John, Run!" as an answer to Little Richard's "Long Tall Sally" ("Gonna tell aunt Mary, about uncle John..."), recorded a session with the Shindings (better known now as Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs!) and to this day along with Kid Thomas, are the coolest cult figures of Rhythm & Blues and the punks of the idiom. D'ya really need more?

Musicians:
Jerry "Boogie" McCain - vocals, harmonica;
Rick Hinkle - guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar;
Wayne Goins - guitar;
Steve McRay - piano, synthesizer;
Buzz Amato - piano;
Bryan Cole - drums.

The actual feeling you are listening to a Bluesman who absorbed nickname "Boogie" comes with an all-acoustic title song although first two swampy cuts deserve an equal attention. Further "Tumblin' In The Sea" is an instrumental with harp and keyboards dominating, "Long Arm Of The Law" is why we love Jerry McCain, then is "(She Might Sell My) Teddy Bear" and it goes like it should go: Blues, only Blues and nothin' but the Blues with Jerry McCain speaking through his harp on acoustic again "Lucy Pearl". "I Ain't Got Time" is a pearl both in terms of music/performance and lyrics. Slow blues "Just A Little Bit" with super class harp solo, precedes closing track "I Want to Be Your Santa Claus" with excellent harp work again. Superb Album!
This is maestro Jerry "Boogie" McCain and his harp.
All eleven songs are written by Jerry McCain.

Jerry "Boogie" McCain - Love Desperado

Bitrate: 320K/s

Label: Ichiban
Styles: Blues

Tracks Listing:
 1. Blues Tribute - 4:44
 2. Burn The Crackhouse Down - 4:47
 3. I Need To Do Something - 6:15

 6. Lovin' School - 4:21
 7. I Used To Have It - 4:49
 8. Mercy, Mercy Mercy - 4:05
 9. Non-Stop Lovin' - 5:15

The Alabama harpist's contemporary releases for Ichiban are certainly competent, but that insane energy level that marked his Excello output of the '50s is ancient history -- and so too, for the most part, is the gleeful irreverence that made his early sides such a delight.

12. Pull Up In My Carage - 6:01

Produced by Mike Vernon and recorded in Memphis, Austin, and Chicago in May of 1999 with an all-star cast, this catches McCain in peak form. With the Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble rhythm section of Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon anchoring things down, the guitar work is ably handled by Anson Funderburgh, Derek O'Brien, and John Primer with several guest appearances from Jimmie Vaughan sprinkled throughout the set. Add Johnnie Johnson guesting on four tracks and match it all up with some solid, humorous songwriting and you have one of McCain's most consistent efforts in years. A winner all the way.
