The start of the band dates back to September 1979, when Jimmy Ragazzon and Paolo Canevari started performing in a country-blues acoustic duo as a supporter group of the Treves Blues Band.
In 1981 the first electric line up with bass and drums commits the Mandolin’ Brothers to rock-blues classics.
At the beginning of the nineties, after much musical experience and as many line up changes, the band adds an accordion and keyboards (piano and organ) and reintroduces the mandolin (this time amplified) drawing the band closer to the roots-rock sound. The latter varies from the Mexican-border and the Louisiana-swamp-rock to the ballads of solo artists, without ever forgetting their blues roots .
The band members are:
JIMMY RAGAZZON: lead vocal, acoustic guitar and harp
PAOLO CANEVARI: electric guitars, Slide & National Steel
MARCO ROVINO: vocals, mandolin, electric and acoustic guitars
RICCARDO MACCABRUNI: vocals, accordion, piano and organ
JOE BARRECA: electric and doublebass
DANIELE NEGRO: drums and percussions
The concerts repertoire alternates between their original tracks and cover songs, the latter reinterpreted with a very personal touch.
Along with their more then three decades of activity, the band accounts for hundreds of concerts in the Italian festival and club scene, in the USA and a regular participation to various European rock and blues festivals, with a few flattering press as well as music critics reviews.
During their 33 years of career they have played with many artists like ARTHUR MILES, BEPPE GAMBETTA, MIKE COOPER, ANDY J. FOREST, DAVE ALVIN BAND (Blasters) ELIOTT MURPHY, ALVIN LEE (Ten Years After) MIGHTY SAM Mc CLAIN, PIERRE BENSUSAN, NINE BELOW ZERO, POPA CHUBBY, JOHN MOONEY, SANDRA HALL, ERIC BIBB, SEAN CARNEY BAND, SARAH PIERCE BAND, ERIC HANKE, CINDY CASHDOLLAR, CODY BRAUN (Reckless Kelly), JANE GILLMAN, JONO MANSON, JOHN POPPER, JAMES HUNTER’ SIX, WALTER WOLFMAN WASHINGTON.
In 2001 they realised their first cd “FOR REAL” which receives excellent reviews from both, specialized music magazines and web sites.
In January 2007 the Mandolin’ Brothers were invited to the USA to perform a few concerts at the Broward Center For The Performing Arts, and at the China White, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
In 2008 they published “STILL GOT DREAMS” voted as 4th best Italian rock album of the year, by Roots Highway magazine.
In March 2009 the band was in Austin, Texas, to play a few gigs and to record some new songs at Merel Bregante Studio (historic drummer with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Loggins & Messina, Chris Hillman etc.) with the partecipation of Merel Bregante, Kenny Grimes, Dough Hudson, Carl Loschiavo (Sarah Pierce Band), Lynn Daniel, Cindy Cashdollar (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison etc.) and Cody Braun (Reckless Kelly).
In 2009 was published “30 LIVES!” the live album to celebrate their first 30 years of history, with the sound, the groove and the good vibrations of their concerts, voted as 4th best Italian rock album of the year by the readers of “Buscadero” rock music magazine.
