Mark Staford belongs to the intermediate generation of Canadian singers and harmonica players who bet for an original personal jump-blues but, at the same time, do never forget fifties rhythm & blues roots identity Mark’s experience comes from twenty years ago and this becomes evident in the way he plays and sings the blues with great knowledge, passion and devotion All songs included on the cd are really amazing and the backing band gives a swingin’ performing Mark Stafford’s harmonica playing is greatly influenced by different great masters and musical schools specially Little Walter, James Cotton and Kim Wilson who he admires and worships but he also has influences of other important harp players such as William Clarke, Rod Piazza or Sonny Boy Williamson This cd is especially devoted to traditional classic harmonica lovers and fourties and fifties West Coast blues fans. Mark bird Stafford is a talented harpist with a Capitol T-Tone. With a revolving cast of Toronto- area musicians, he's put together a solid effort in Harpspace (Lily Jean 003). While the overall vibe relaxed, there's plenty of power from the rhythm section. Johnny "Guitar" Watson's rocking "Gangster of Love" get prime treatment, while Stafford's own "Follow My Heart" is a first - class crawler. This guy cooks. 8 originals - 4 covers.
