Carlos Johnson, one of Chicago’s most accomplished blues guitarists. Guitarist Hideaki Tanaka, who was influenced by Carlos’s playing while he was there, and Carlos have come together to create this collaborative album! Since Otis Rush suffered a stroke in 2004, Carlos Johnson, the Chicago guitarist/singer who has supported Rush as his right-hand man and gained immense popularity among Japanese blues fans with his passionate solo performances, is now collaborating with Japanese guitarist Hideaki Tanaka. Tanaka, inspired by Otis Rush, moved to Chicago in 1999, witnessed Carlos’s live performances, and was greatly inspired and influenced, spending four years there.
This album brings together these two, who could be called master and apprentice, to a full collaboration. From “I Wonder Why,” Otis’s signature instrumental opener that Carlos has taken over, to Jimmy Reed’s “You Don’t Have To Go,” a closer that Carlos has also featured on previous live albums, the two engage in a deep conversation through their guitars. The result is a relaxed yet profound album.
