He temporarily moved to Germany, Switzerland, and France to establish contacts with record labels and promoters. In terms of musical style, we can clearly label Gerry Joe Weise’s music “blues rock.” But not just any blues rock… no… Gerry Joe blends funk, psychedelia, avant-garde, and world music into his music with the greatest ease. He opens the album with the instrumental *Blues Down Under*. A lazy shuffle featuring his viciously biting guitar, which frequently evokes memories of Roy Buchanan. Next, *Broken Hill Blues* is a massively pumping rocker with Gerry Joe’s powerful, heartfelt vocals and his biting guitar injections. A softly rustling surf opens the relaxed, shuffling, and instrumental *Blue Outback*. In this track, Gerry Joe blends the sound of Peter Green and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Next, Boogie Ya Na Ho is a mean, biting boogie with a dirty garage rock sound, floating on a Bo Diddley beat. Dreamtime Shuffle can be heard in a live version. A pumping shuffle with raw, Elmore James-esque slide guitar work.Gerry Joe’s Houserocker is also a sweeping slide rocker in the best Elmore James and Hound Dog Taylor style. Surprisingly, Pink Floyd (Shine On You Crazy Diamond) influences surface in Blues For Gary Moore. Halfway through, the song takes off pumping in its best Gary Moore’s Walking By Myself style.Bushman Boogie Deluxe opens as a raw, driving country blues with wailing guitar work. Suddenly, the song continues as a funky blues track that also makes room for psychedelic sitar sounds. Earth Spirit is pure psychedelia in a duet between guitar and didgeridoo. Gerry Joe closes the album with a searing and highly psychedelic version of Jimi Hendrix’s Manic Depression. For top-notch blues-rock guitar work, this album by Gerry Joe Weise is the perfect choice!
