Louisiana guitar slinger Tom Coerver is back, and on this his third album, he abandons the solo thing, teaming up with bassist Bill Doran and drummer Keith Simoneaux to form “Goin’ South."The resulting CD is a sheer rocker, combining Coerver originals with some choice cover tunes. Coerver rocks it out from the beginning with his own “It’s All In Your Head,” and whips up the Southern Rock gumbo with Hatchet’s version of The Allman’s “Dreams I’ll Never See,” and a hot take on Skynyrd’s “Poison Whiskey.” There’s an apt cover of The Eagles' ”Life In The Fast Lane,” and a rocking Rolling Stones cover, “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin.”Tom Coerver has proven himself to be a talented multi-instrumentalist. and songwriter, and with “Thirds,” he manages to raise the bar once again, especially with the social commentary of "Politics As Usual,” and the lyrically excellent “Get A Life Of Your Own.”At 16-tracks, Thirds is a lot of good music for the money. All killer, no filler, from a true red, white and blue Southern rocker and his band. Louisiana swamp-rock never sounded better!
