"Michael Fell and His So-Called Friends -
Highly sought-after Los Angeles blues harmonica man (taught by jazz organist legend Jimmy Smith, who he still performs with today), Michael brings Chicago-driven West Coast style blues to this CD, staffed by the best blues sidemen in Los Angeles. His "So-Called Friends" feature a searing vocal by Marcy Levy (she co-wrote "Lay Down Sally" with Eric Clapton), and former William Clark sidemen John Marx and Rick Reed who provide the guitar and bass that drives the groove. Three drummers check in, Brian Head, Asmus Jenson and Michael Partlow, filling out the 12-cuts. Keyboard is in the capable hands of Rob Van, and yet another bassist Ted Kamp also provides a vocal. The whole package was recorded live at BB Chung King's Dawghouse Studios, and BB also contributes a vocal.
The entire collaboration was the result of the So-Called Friend's eight years of hosting the Monday Night Jam Sessions at Cozy's Blues Club in Sherman Oaks, in the San Fernando Valley" (2005).
