A collection of songs we think represent us and what has become a clear representation of our music over the past two years; half blues and half other. Our interpretation of the blues revolves largely around the heroes of early electric blues; Magic Sam, John Lee Hooker, Freddie King to name a few but what do we mean by the other, the other half of us – the other side of 50/50? During the pandemic, a common interest and love for Old school funk, soul and rhythm and blues grew – styles we feel complement our firm anchoring in the blues while giving us a contrast in our music. We hope this contrast is not only exciting for us but at least as exciting for the audience! This is what 50/50 is for us: a musical statement about who we are. 50/50 is an invitation to what the audience already knows about us and what they don't yet know; the comfortable and the challenging.
The Bluetonics is a band that plays blues. Improvisation, rejuvenation and rawness are the guiding principles for creation – alongside the tradition-bound nature that is also required for the musical style. The Bluetonics work through their music to broaden the definition of blues by playfully and exploratively utilizing the broad influences that are closely related to the blues; funk, jazz and Americana. The sum of all this is The Bluetonics – a blues band with its feet in both the traditional and the challenging. In 2021, the debut EP Tåg Till Södertälje was released with two accompanying singles; Sickla Shuffle and Fine By Me. The EP, which was recorded during the first fiery year of the pandemic, has supported the band's establishment as one of the more popular and sought-after acts on the Stockholm scene.
