Thanks to Christopher Biehler and his label Forevermore, Al King finally finds the opportunity to record new songs after almost 30 years of absence. We particularly appreciate the songs "It's rough out here", "People in the graveyard", "Sweet Jimmy's place", "My baby loves playing bingo" and "Better to be by yourself". Fed up with the record industry, the man who is regarded as the "Father of the West Coast Blues" vowed never to record again. But the Blues has stayed with Al, he continued to write and perform, and is now ready once again to share his vision and passion for the blues with the world. Backed by a group of talented young blues musicians known as the Sugarbees, this CD is certain to show the world that the "Blues Master" is back!

Brazilian guitarist Celso Salim is a rare example of a performer that can effortlessly cross genre boundaries to create something that is personal, compelling, and extremely intricate. His music takes on a bevy of genres, from blues to jazz, soul, honky-tonk and classic rock. Over the course of the last decade, Salim has expanded his repertoire considerably. 
Singer, songwriter and music producer Rafael Cury (born in Brasília, Brazil) began his career in 1995. Graduated in recording engineering at the Musicians Institute (MIT) in California in 1999, has colaborated with Celso Salim, Dillo D'Araujo, Carol Fazu and Evil Rock, as well as solo work. Since 2013, singer and songwriter in the group The High Head Hunters.

Modern, mature soul with a wonderfully full, deep voice—that's what AL "Coffee McDaniel" delivers on "A Special Blend." But that only provides a first impression, as this artist knows how to blend his soul with blues, jazz, pop, R&B, funk, and jazz to create a unique, unique style, without attempting too much of each at once. As a whole, the album is very relaxed, without lacking bite on the more powerful tracks. He grew up in the Southern United States, and that's still noticeable today.
His music is easily accessible thanks to familiar patterns, which he skillfully combines with new ideas. Even Black music fans with a large soul collection won't feel like they've heard it all before, but can listen intently to discover the details—or simply let themselves go.
What he doesn't showcase on "A Special Blend" is his extensive experience with gospel. As a child, he toured a lot with the family gospel band – but he's also recorded entire gospel albums. In that sense, the limitation here is a contribution to diversity. Diversity is also a good keyword when it comes to his talents: He's a singer, composer, arranger, producer, and also writes songs. However, he knows that most people like to hear what they know, and it's no problem for him to sing the big Black music hits to the audience.
His interpretation of Barry White's classic "Can't Get Enough" is – in its own way – almost as good as the original. AL "Coffee" McDaniel simply has the voice for it! AL "Coffee" McDaniel also impressively sings "One In A Million," which Larry Graham once enjoyed success with. Whether he actually brings anything new with his version of "Stormy Monday Blues," first recorded by Walker T-Bone in 1947 and interpreted by so many artists before him, is one thing – but it certainly sounds convincing!
A little more about diversity: AL "Coffee" McDaniel sees himself as a one-man band that can compete with a dozen musicians – thanks to modern technology. This allows him to do everything himself, which also saves him a number of problems, from the band members' overly large egos to sharing the profits and scheduling difficulties.
SUMMARY: AL "Coffee" McDaniel is in perfect harmony with himself. In keeping with his nickname, "A Special Blend" is not a quickly brewed instant blend, but a specialty prepared according to the rules of the barista's art.

During most of the 1990's Darrell played in a variety of bands traveling the east coast and southern Florida. In 2003 Darrell joined the Joey Gilmore Band full time playing piano and guitar. In January 2005 The Joey Gilmore band played in the International Blues Challenge Finals with Darrell on guitar. February 2006 the band was the winner of the International Blues Challenge with the title of best unsigned Blues Band in the world. Darrell was nominated for the Albert King Award in the finals competition. He toured the USA with the Joey Gilmore Band up until summer 2006. After the summer of 2006 tour, Darrell decided to take his career to the next level and in August, 2006 The Darrell Raines Band was formed.

Morgan Giosa is a web developer, blues guitarist, photographer, and visual artist from Windsor, Connecticut. From an early age, Morgan was raised around music and the arts. His brother Alex is a professional drummer and a skilled visual artist. Many of Morgan's friends and peers are gigging musicians. As such, Morgan has naturally discovered his own passion in blues guitar and the visual arts through this frequent exposure to creativity. A self described "old soul", Morgan feels his music is most rooted in inspiration from the electric psychedelic blues of the 1960s (artists such as Michael Bloomfield and Jimi Hendrix are among his favorites), as well as influenced by the greatest electric bluesmen of all time (particularly B.B. King and Albert King, two of his favorite musicians). Morgan's music and visual art ultimately come to him spontaneously from his unique and unconventional intuition and emotions and life experiences. Frank Varela has dazzled audiences for many years with his guitar prowess. He is known among his peers as a unique master guitarist who ignites the interest of every listener. His imaginative compositions, arrangements of standards and numerous recording engagements has brought years of recognition, including favorable reviews in the nationally renowned publications such as "Jazz Improv" magazine. Frank Varela's ability to inspire others is reflected in the improvement of many professional guitar playing peers who study privately with him to bring their playing to a different level. He takes pride in mentoring so many players including a long engagement teaching blues phenom Jake Kulak who Frank taught from Jake's first lessons at age 11 through to his acceptance into Berklee School of Music and Morgan Giosa who has performed at various CT and MA venues and recorded an album of original music with Frank and other veteran musicians. Morgan and Frank, alongside bassist Rudi Weeks, drummer Alex Giosa, and multi-instrumentalist Matt Kampe, recently released an album under Morgan's name entitled "Feelin' Fine Today", which has received airplay on independent radio stations as far from home as the United Kingdom. British Rhythm & Blues Singer Emma Wilson releases her 3rd Album, 'A Spoonful of Willie Dixon', recorded live in the studio, through Memphis based distribution giants “Select-O-Hits” following the success of her excellent 2022 all original Americana-influenced debut 'Wish Her Well' and the exquisite and highly acclaimed STAX-esque 2023 release 'Memphis Calling' an album she recorded at ‘Sam Phillips Recording Studios’ Memphis with 'The Hi Rhythm Section' giving her the international hit 'What Kind of Love' featuring Don Bryant.
Returning to her beloved Memphis in May 2024, Emma performed at the inaugural 'RiverBeat' festival with 'The Bo-Keys' (who’s bandleader Scott Bomar produced 'Memphis Calling') she then drove down the Blues Highway to Clarksdale to sing at the legendary 'Ground Zero Club' at the invitation of the 'Pinetop Perkins Foundation'.
Visiting Clarksdale created the spark for Emma’s new album 'A Spoonful of Willie Dixon'. Having recorded Willies’ 'Hoochie Coochie Ma(ma)' on 'Memphis Calling', prompting pianist Archie ‘Hubbie’ Turner to exclaim "She’s not from Middlesbrough, she’s from Mississippi!”, Emma was inspired to sing more of Dixon’s songs and record them with her wonderful British band. The deep respect that Emma and the band have for the legendary Willie Dixon is evident in their interpretation of his songs. Emma also showcases her extraordinarily versatile blues voice through his brilliant compositions.

Texas singer-songwriter Calvin Russell was recorded live in Italy in 1997 while on tour with a stellar band consisting of Spencer Jarmon (guitar), Jim Panek (keyboards), Scott Garber (bass) and Jim Starboard (drums). The pre-release listening panel agreed that this is the best live album (both performance and sound) ever released by the sorely missed Calvin Russell. First official release since his untimely death in 2011. Kudos to Cynthia Russell for her full support and dedication.

It is a 12-song cd, 4 of them written by Spencer. Eight of the cuts are live with W.C. playing the Guitar, bass, harp, drums and singing at the same time. That comes from the notes on the cd, I find that hard to believe, but if it's true W.C. Spencer must be one hell of an artist and act to see live. The Title of the cd is "Blues Explorer" it is appropriately titled because this is the travelers' blues music and an explorer must travel. The voice is clear with plenty of guitar, harp, and beat. The lyrics are cleaver and it will keep your foot tapping. He mixes in some jump blues that will get you jumping up and dancing then sitting you back down gently to appreciate the blues. The first song is a dandy, "I Said The Blues," written by Spencer. It starts you off rockin with a classic upbeat blues tempo. The second follows suit with a Chester Burnet song "Forty Four." "Tell me Momma" (cut 3) is a cleaver traveling song about the other man running out the back door. "So Long" (cut 4) is a beautiful blues ballad with no words. You can almost add your own words thinking about the previous song, a nice connection between the two, but a sharp contrast in beat and tempo. Cut 9 is "Mean Old Train" and that harp has it rolling down the tracks. Cut 10 is "Call on Me," a slow dance song, and a very good transition to what will make you sit back down and just listen to the blues. The cover art depicts Spencer's guitar hovering over the planet earth like a blues explorer spaceship. The music was recorded between 1999 and 2003 in Maryland and released the next year.
