Whether he's making recordings on someone's front porch, lighting up Beale Street with his own band, or bringing his soulful vocals and blazing harmonica to destinations nationwide, Tony Holiday remains a dedicated blues disciple. "I've been on the road for ten years," he says. "It's only gotten better."

He has since relocated to Phoenix, AZ where he is a club owner (The Rhythm Room), radio DJ, award-winning record producer and more. He often tours the world, accompanying other blues artists, to play prestigious festivals and clubs. Taboo presents a variety of Chicago Blues styles, including the show-stealer title track. “Taboo” was not written as a12 bar blues standard, and instead has a haunting Latino-Brazilian feel. 12. Let The Rain Come Down - 4:16

Produced by Grammy award winning producer Isaac Nossel (Jack Bruce, Robin Trower, Paul McCartney, Paul Young, Roger Daltry, Jeff Beck, Maggie Bell, Dana Gillespie) the debut album by Ben Poole displays a far more mature sound compared to previous recordings. Recorded at Isaac’s studio and at Bernie Torme’s (Ozzy Osbourne/Ian Gillan) studio (where the ‘Everything I Want’ EP was cut) it also establishes Ben as a well-rounded musician, proving himself as a competent songwriter and vocalist as well as an accomplished guitarist. On the album seven of the songs are Ben Poole originals, two are co-writes with producer Isaac and three are covers including the Otis Redding/Steve Cropper song Mr. Pitiful and the Anne Peebles original I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down with which Paul Young had a top 10 hit way back in 1984. Joining Ben on the album are Ben’s regular band-mates Barry Pethers on bass and Alan Taylor on drums, and he’s also joined by Ruf Records recording artist Dani Wilde on backing vocals on six of the twelve tracks. Also featuring Chris Lebon on Cello and Mark ‘Card’ Earl on drums and percussion as well as a handful of other very talented musicians.

Long recognized as the perennial top contender when it comes to Yuletide R&B, Brown salutes the holiday season in his own inimitable manner. Naturally, there's the umpteenth remake of his seminal "Merry Christmas Baby," along with several more that he's been crooning every December since before most of us were born. But nobody does 'em better.

Zac Harmon - Live at Babe & Ricky's Inn

Year: 2002

 4. Full Figured Woman - 6:28
 5. The Blues in You - 5:28
 6. I Got News For You - 4:06
 7. Alberta - 3:16
 8. Smile - 5:21
 9. Forty Days (Studio Version) - 5:13
10. Stormin' in Mississippi (Studio Version) - 4:42

The Zac Harmon Band-Live at Babe & Ricky's Inn is a very soulful blues CD. Zac Harmons guitar playing is fluid but his voice smooth and satisfying. And the lyrics contain a good humor and band is tight. I like the keyboard player. I knocked off a star because the two studio tracks are same songs that are played live just a little slower and cleaner. It would have been good to include two new songs in the studio. Over all...recommended.

12. I Shall Not Be Moved - 3:44

b. 8 July 1934, Cedar Grove, Elmo, Texas, USA, d. 7 December 2003. Probably the last elder statesmen of Texas blues, it fell to individuals such as Qualls to carry the mantle, in a less than competent way, a tradition that has all but succumbed to the passage of time. While performing songs first recorded by artists such as Lightnin’ Hopkins and Lil Son Jackson, his faltering guitar technique, including a very wayward slide style, was more reminiscent of Willie ‘Smokey’ Hogg, an artist who built a reputation on his incapacity to observe the formalities of 12-bar blues. Taught as a youth by Emmitt Williams, Qualls supplemented his instruction by making regular visits to Dallas to watch Hopkins, Jackson and Frankie Lee Sims in action. Through most of his adult life, music was an intermittent hobby as he earned his living ploughing fields and mowing the lawns of the Dallas élite. Found by Dallas Blues Society men Scottie Ferris and Chuck Nevitt, Qualls became a reluctant local celebrity. His album contained the expected material from the Hopkins and Jackson songbooks, along with Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup’s ‘Death Valley Blues’ and fumbled versions of ‘Motherless Children’ and ‘I Shall Not Be Moved’. The touchstone of his importance as a Texas bluesman was his ability to place the Newbeats’ ‘Bread And Butter’ alongside Lowell Fulson’s ‘Reconsider Baby’

Counterfeited Soulstice Vol 1, Soul Garage Experience’s debut record, is an important milestone in the career of proud Californian, Italian born, multitalented producer / writer / musician Grossi who steps out as the front man for this new ensemble.  While his endless list of collaborations includes Slash, Eric Gales, Gary Clark Jr, Billy F Gibbons, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Glenn Hughes, Leslie West, Joe Bonamassa, Warren Haynes, and George Clinton & P-Funk, it’s a new role and exciting challenge as he steps front and center.  He offers, “This is hard, but great at the same time. With all the other great musicians that I’ve produced, or played with, it was simpler in a way because their statuses and names got me ‘attention,’ but also ‘protection.’ With Soul Garage Experience it’s all ‘balls out.’ I needed to be able to keep up with all the great monsters out there in the world. It’s all on me this time, well most of it.” He chuckles, “I cannot get behind Kenny (Aronoff) or Kris (Barras), like I do with Supersonic Blues Machine, and simply groove away providing a rumbling low end.”  Soul Garage Experience’s sound can be easily associated with contemporary Rootsy Rockers and Americana/Neo-Soul artists such as Vintage Trouble, Black Pumas, Gary Clark Jr, The Black Keys, Fantastic Negrito, The Heavy etc. Thanks to the backgrounds, of the great musicians featured on the record, their own history and their endless love for Hendrix, Cream, James Brown, Bob Marley, and Curtis Mayfield alike, the resulting music experience offered by the band is an infectious groove laden combination of old and new school with a music prowess and ownership that turns heads and instigates curiosity. While its lyric content is socially aware, very positive, and poetically urban with a twist (even if the topics touched are no joke), it portrays Fab’s own up bringing as a citizen of the world with stops in Milan, London, Toronto, New York & his beloved LA. Fab is excited to bring his music to all, to excite, thrill, enlighten, and raise awareness of how we can all come together in the not only the most difficult but also the best of times. The collected work that became the band’s debut is the album Fab says he would have wanted to do if it was still 1972.  Sadly enough, the majority of its themes could have worked back then, as they are incredibly current today. The ghost of his first true musical love Bob Marley is definitely felt throughout the whole record, and not only for the often-embraced Reggae tones, but for the simple, positive & direct way the often engaging and opinionated lyrics are narrated. The comparison couldn’t be more descriptive, since all of the above were unconsciously a big influence on Fab’s musical up bringing. Maybe because of the western cities factor, Soul Garage Experience often adopted Reggae draws, have more in common with Joe Strummer and Co, than with the sunny Jamaican Rasta vibes, but the gritty funky/soul core of his music, and that “urban proletarian” spin of the Caribbean sound track, makes this record a happy re-discovery of all the colors of soul music we all grew up to know, and then some.  The record features some pretty solid cats such as Stephen Perkins (Jane’s Addiction, Porno for Pyros), Hermann Matthews (Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder), Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty, Joe Satriani, Smashing Pumpkins, Paul Mc Cartney), Bette Smith, Alastair Greene (Alan Parsons), Diimond Meeks (American Idol & America’s Got Talent finalist and CeeLo Gen pupil), Alex Alessandroni Jr (Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Pink, Natalie Cole), and again Derek Day, Dylan Meek, The Supersonettes (Francis Benitez & Andrea Grossi Benitez), Chris Hansen, Fabio Drusin and more. Twenty-four-year-old fellow LA based rising star Derek Day provides the incendiary guitar playing on most of the record. He infuses his music with the power of Rock N’ Roll, and a big chunk of Soul alongside R&B.  Derek has opened for and performed with luminaries in Steve Vai, Moby, and Slash. Together with star drummer Stephen Perkins, keyboards wizards Alex Alessandroni Jr., Dylan Meek, and vocalist uber talent Diimond Meeks, he’s part of the touring core of Soul Garage Experience.Just like for his other award-winning band Supersonic Blues Machine, fronted by Kris Barras with Kenny Aronoff, that often sports guest appearances by Billy F. Gibbons, Eric Gales & many more sublime talents, the thrilling live shows of the Soul Garage outfit are heavily jam based, so to embrace the golden era of live Rhythm N Blues, Rock & Soul: the 60’s and the 70’s. Onstage, the ensemble easily moves between new crafted tunes and all time classics spanning time in Hendrix, Cream, Allman Bros, and Stevie Wonder, but they are a far cry from your regular covers band….this is a true Soul Garage Experience.

John Leroy "Johnny" Heartsman (February 9, 1936 – December 27, 1996) was an American electric blues and soul blues musician and songwriter. He showed musical diversity, playing a number of musical instruments, including the electronic organ and flute. He contributed his distinctive guitar playing to a number of recordings made in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1950s and 1960s. He continued playing until his death. His best-known recording, "Johnny's House Party", was an R&B hit in 1957. Other notable tracks recorded by Heartsman are "Paint My Mailbox Blue" and "Heartburn". He variously worked with Jimmy McCracklin, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Big Mama Thornton, Ray Agee, Jimmy Wilson, Johnny Fuller, Al King, Tiny Powell and Joe Simon. He is not to be confused with the American jazz singer Johnny Hartman.
Heartsman was born Johnnie Eastman Jr. in Houston, Texas, and moved at an early age to San Fernando, California. He was initially influenced by Lafayette Thomas. In his teenage years, Heartsman started working as a session musician, in the studio with a local record producer, Bob Geddins. One of his earliest involvements was playing the bass guitar for the 1953 recording of "Tin Pan Alley", by Jimmy Wilson. His own efforts yielded the instrumental track "Johnny's House Party (Parts 1 & 2)", released by the Music City label, which reached number 13 on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart in June 1957. The record billed the act as John Heartsman, the Rhythm Rocker and the Gaylarks. His continued working as a session musician into the early 1960s. He played on Tiny Powell's "My Time After Awhile" and Al King's cover version of "Reconsider Baby". Heartman's guitar-playing technique involved imaginative use of the guitar's volume control, producing "an eerie moan".  His later work included playing in show bands, performing in cocktail lounges, and playing as the touring organist for Joe Simon. He spent 1970–1973 in Midland, Texas, as the leader of the house band at the Chateau Club. It was here that he hired the young blues guitarist and singer-songwriter Jay Boy Adams. Adams credits Heartsman as one of his musical mentors. By the late 1980s, Heartsman had reverted to playing the blues. His debut album, Sacramento, was released in 1987.  It was described by one reviewer as "a great success".  He had previously appeared at the San Francisco Blues Festival in 1985. The record producer Dick Shurman oversaw the recording of Heartsman's album The Touch, released by Alligator Records in 1991. Over the years, Heartsman wrote songs for Jesse James ("Are You Gonna Leave Me"), Roy Buchanan ("Goose Grease"), John Hammond, Jr. (Got to Find My Baby"), Amos Garrett ("Move On Down the Line"), and several more for Joe Simon. He continued his music career until he died of a stroke in Sacramento, California, in December 1996, at the age of 60.

 3. How Long Blues - 3:23
 4. Ride 'em Down - 4:19

Another volume of "Blues It Up".. opening with my version of Arthur Crudup's "That's All Right". Back in 1971 my band Killing Floor got to back Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup at a university gig in the UK. Actually he only wanted the drummer, so I got to watch the show. He did some favourites such as "Mean Ole Frisco" but sadly I don't remember too many details, and there were no photos. At that time I'd probably never heard Presley's version of his song - it wasn't easy to get Sun releases back then. When I did hear the early Sun Elvis stuff I loved it, but actually Elvis's version of this is pretty close to Arthur's - they both have the same energy and joie de vivre. So I've tried to hang on to that, with a little slide guitar added, which neither of their versions featured. Anyway it was a lot of fun to record and I like it a lot. I hope you enjoy it too.Next up the current single "Oh Pretty Woman" - the Albert King classic. I couldn't resist it! And then Leroy Carr's fabulous "How Long Blues". I attacked this pretty hard on my 1930s Harmony - I didn't want to copy Leroy's or anyone else's version. I think it rocks. And an original - "Ride 'em Down". Blues as a supernatural force creeping around your bed.. spooky eh? Please note: Online release currently has temporary artwork - work in progress! Hope you enjoy the music - more in the pipeline. (https://www.mickclarke.com/album/bluesitupvol2.htm)

TOM PRINCIPATO House On Fire Live In Europe When it comes to electric blues, you can tell whether a guitarist has it right - or wrong. Armed with a Tele, Principato is dead-on, deploying fat, twangy runs and mad, string popping licks. This live album was cut in 2003 but still sounds red-hot today. Tom's thick tone also makes us wonder why more bluesmen don't use a Telecaster - it's absolutely perfect. Pete Prown Vintage Guitar magazine Jan. 2021.  What resulted was a great concert captured from Tros Sessions radio in Hilversum, Netherlands. Included in the set are songs from the "House On Fire" CD as well as songs from the "Guitar Gumbo" CD, and Principato live repetoire standbys such as "Fish Fry"; a Smokin' re-working of Louis Jordan's Sat.

Connor Selby - Made Up My Mind

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2018
Time: 38:07
Size: 87,4 MB
Label: 3Ms Music
Styles: Blues/Blues Rock

Tracks Listing:
 1. Made My Mind Up - 4:18
 2. This Old World - 5:25
 3. Help Me - 3:40
 4. Tired Of Wasting My Time - 4:25
 5. See It Through - 3:01
 6. You Hurt Me - 6:05
 7. That's Alright - 4:31
 8. Sure As The Sunrise - 6:38

Connor Selby is a twenty year-old guitarist/vocalist from Essex, England, and this is his debut album. Connor handles all vocals and lead guitar, with Andy Corby on bass, Rob Shearer on drums, Robbie Noble on keys and Jon Getty on rhythm guitar. Connor wrote all eight songs here, two in collaboration with Andy. Connor’s vocals are surprisingly mature for such a young guy and his guitar playing brings memories of Dominos era Clapton (which is quite a compliment!). The playing mostly avoids the usual blues-rock trap of over-playing, making the disc a pleasant listen. The title track opens proceedings with a throbbing bass line and light and airy keys over which the two guitars mesh well, Connor pulling out a striking solo towards the end. The lyrics deal with the usual issues of unrequited love and moving on from a relationship whereas “This Old World” details doom and gloom over a funky blues tune. “Help Me” has similarly dark lyrics about feeling desperate, begging for help, a tune with great keyboard work that lifts the chorus and a middle section with a touch of Prog Rock about it before Connor emerges to take another fleet-fingered solo. The pace drops for the soulful ballad “Tired Of Wasting My Time” with excellent electric piano, organ and subtle guitar fills, a fine tune with better than average lyrics. A fast-paced rocker follows as Connor is determined to “See It Through” before he declares “You Hurt Me” – clearly his early love life has not been altogether smooth running. This was the pick of the album for this reviewer, another slower song with lyrics full of angst set against a good bass groove and Connor’s neat fills which give way to an excellent, restrained solo later in the track. “That’s Alright” begins well with Connor prominent from the start on another slower song in which he expresses his frustration at having wasted time “sitting idly by”. The bass is again a powerful influence on the pace of the song which also adds plenty of organ behind Connor’s solo which just about avoids falling into shredding at the end of the track. “Sure As The Sunrise” is the final track on this shortish album, another soulful ballad that progresses steadily for over four minutes before Connor embarks on an extended solo that does get a little over-indulgent. It will be interesting to see where Connor goes from this promising debut. In the UK the siren call of loud blues-rock shredding is never far away but Connor has a smooth voice that suits more soulful material and, one suspects, a record collection that includes quite a lot of great soul music as well as blues and rock. He seems to have plenty of choices and I hope that he makes the right ones.

Seth Walker gets pigeon-holed as a blues artist, which he is, possessing a sharp, fluid, and elegantly clean guitar style that makes him sound like a 21st century version of T-Bone Walker (no relation), always gracefully augmenting the song at hand instead of growling in the corner. Yeah, Walker can play the blues, and he has, but he's also a brilliantly nuanced vocalist -- part Al Green, part Harry Connick Jr., part James Taylor -- whose songwriting and singing is as much R&B, gospel, country, and jazz as it is blues. All of this is obvious on his latest album, the self-produced Time Can Change, which is much sparer, jazzier, and small band combo-oriented than his previous release, the Gary Nicholson-produced and critically acclaimed Leap of Faith, from 2009. The songs here aren't blues -- they're late-night gypsy soul numbers with jazz overtones and now and then a little reggae lilt -- but they carry blues themes full of the worries, concerns, and trials that come with life, love, and relationships. They just aren't blues songs in the accepted contemporary sense, which generally means blistering electric guitar leads and a growling, honky tonk tone. That isn't Walker, at least not where this wonderful set is concerned. Songs like "Stronger Than You Need to Be," "Before It Breaks," "What Now," and "More Days Like This" have more to do with Django Reinhardt than they do Stevie Ray Vaughan, and more to do with Ray Charles than they do Howlin' Wolf, although the concerns are the same -- how to find love, stability, and redemption when everything depends on it. Walker's vocals are as natural, clear, sharp, and as effortlessly elegant as his guitar playing in these songs, and it all fits together into a warm, unadorned little album that reveals itself more and more with each listen.
