Soul-blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter Dave Keller, hailing from Vermont in the northeastern United States, has been touring the States for years with his soul/blues band. After the recent dark years, marked by racial violence, the coronavirus pandemic, and the natural disasters (floods) that also ravaged his community, he felt it was time to let the world know that it was time for him and his bandmates (keyboard ace Ira Friedman and the rocksteady rhythm section Jay Gleason on drums and Alex Budney on bass) to shine.
To capture the band's live sound as accurately as possible on the record, Keller decided to forgo the sterile studio sound and chose a remote mountain cabin near the Canadian border as his recording location. Everyone gathered in one room, without headphones, recording everything live.
And so we hear Keller and his bandmates live in all their glory on "It's Time To Shine." The band's raw live sound truly shines in several soul/blues rockers like "Waiting For The Sunshine," "The Truth Of The Blues," "My Time To Shine," the fantastic "Paint A New Life Together," "Full Measure Of Pleasure," and "Hard To Believe." These songs are carried by Keller's vocals and Friedman's organ work.
The soul/blues rockers are interspersed with a number of genuine soul hits, complete with horns and female backing vocals, such as "789-0133," the beautifully sung soul ballad "The First Time With You," and "Something 'Bout A Sad Song."
On "It's Time To Shine," Dave Keller and his band demonstrate that it's indeed time for the music world to realize they have a killer soul/blues band. An album to play over and over again. Top-notch! ~ Tom Wouters.
