This recording is a piece of history. Recorded live in March 1982 at the historic White Eagle in Portland, Oregon, the Pete Karnes Blues Band with guitarist Tom McFarland was as close to a house band for the White Eagle as it got, and this was a great night! You can hear the enthusiastic crowd, and can feel the vibe of a great band in this historic club. Little did anyone in the band realize that the recording made on a cassette recorder sitting on top of a Leslie speaker would resurface after 32 years! Two of the band members from that night have passed on: Tom McFarland and Nick Christmas, may they rest in peace. The remaining members are still playing! Pete Karnes is keeping the blues alive in Florida with his current band. Northwest favorites also heard on this recording are alive and well and playing with many other musical projects: Richard Englund on bass, Doug Smith on sax, and Michael Mendenhall on keyboards. Blues Hall of Fame harmonica master Pete Karnes played with many of the Legends, Big Walter Horton, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Robert Lockwood, J.B. Hutto, Lightning Slim - you can hear the authenticity in his voice and playing. Pete Karnes is a blues harp master, committed to Chicago Blues. Born in Pigget, Arkansas, Pete grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. As a teenager he moved to Detroit with his family for his dad to work in the growing automobile industry, where he would be exposed to all the great blues harmonica players from Chicago. You can hear Pete's tribute to many of these masters on the CD in the song, "Jimmy Reed Medley". During the 70s and early 80s, Pete fronted the Pete Karnes Blues Band in Portland, Oregon. In the mid-eighties, he ended his music career to devote himself to the family. In the late nineties he became seriously ill, but since 2006 has been active again, playing the blues like never before! This CD will transport the listener back to those heady days when the White Eagle was Portland's premier blues venue. The great atmosphere and late night excitement created by the Pete Karnes Blues Band at the White Eagle on this March night in 1982 comes across loud and clear when you listen to this CD. Enjoy the great music, and wonderful history, that this CD offers! Pick up Pete's other CD, "I'm Still Here", as well to round out an excellent collection of blues from one of the real blues harmonica masters, Pete Karnes. "Live at the White Eagle 1982" was originally recorded in March 1982 on a stereo cassette recorder. The cassette was digitized and mixed by Michael Mendenhall at Ba Gua Studio. CD was mastered by Don Ross at Don Ross Productions.
