THE BLUES PEOPLE (Greece) was formed in May 2008 on the occasion of the three-day event/concert for the presentation of LeRoi Jones’ book of the same name (BLUES PEOPLE – Black Music in White America). At these concerts, under the name ALL STAR BLUES BAND, the four founding members hosted on stage performances by 15 other well-known and unknown local artists from Ioannina and some of the most well-known Greek representatives of the genre, such as Elias Zaikos from BLUESWIRE and Miki Pantelos.
Although the four founding members, Christos Parlapas, Achilleas Radis, Akis Kaskanis and Leonidas Porikis, have collaborated in the past playing in different bands, after the success of the May 2008 concerts they decided to continue their journey as a band under the name BLUES PEOPLE INCORPORATED, renamed BLUES PEOPLE UNLIMITED in cases of musical collaboration with other artists.
BLUES PEOPLE INCORPORATED has been collaborated with some of the most prominent artists from Ioannina and abroad in Rock, Jazz and Funk music, such as: Panagiotis Tellis (saxophone, flute), Vangelis Peponis (guitar), Makis Sotiropoulos (guitar), Giorgos Gakis (vocals), Sofia Kamina (vocals), Jim Staridas (trombone), Christos Karagounis (guitar), Kostas Fotiou (guitar), Alexis Karametis (guitar, vocals), Yannis Papandronis (electric bass), Zoe Evangelou (vocals), Alexis Botis (guitar), Kostas Bisdakis (keyboards), Panos Tzimas (guitar), Spyros Parlas (harmonica).
The Blues Tributes that the band has organized from time to time in Ioannina have been honored with the participation of a large number of artists. One of the band's greatest moments was the selection of BLUES PEOPLE UNLIMITED among 15 other bands to open the SCORPIONS concert, which took place on June 5, 2010 at the National Stadium "Zosimades", playing in front of an audience of 11,000 spectators.
Memorable moments of the band are: the participation in the last Castle Rock Festival, in July 2010, the participation in the Ioannina Rock Festival in September 2011, September 2012 and September 2013 as well as the participation in the Tzoumerka Art Festival in August 2009, playing with BLUESWIRE and Takis Barberis, and in August 2012, playing with Schema.In 2011, BLUES PEOPLE INCORPORATED (UNLIMITED) was permanently renamed THE BLUES PEOPLE. They have been honored with the presence on stage of the pioneers of blues in Greece, BLUESWIRE in 2009 and late 2010, as well as Nikos Dounoussis and Nick and the Backbone in early 2009 and early 2013. One of their most outstanding collaborations is with Barry “SinnerBoy” Barnes, with whom they performed for four consecutive years –2011 to 2014– at Café-Bar Kaplanio and at the Ioannina Rock Festival and Rapido Molino Festival, a tribute to Rory Gallagher.
In February 2016, BLUES PEOPLE's first album entitled "Ruthless and Toothless" was released. The current lineup of BLUES PEOPLE is: Leonidas Porikis: drums, Akis Kaskanis: electric bass, Achilleas Radis: electric guitar, vocals, Vangelis Peponis: electric guitar (2016, https://www.oasispublications.gr).
