Respect! "Blues 'N Roll" is already The Double Vision's third self-released album. "Three Days In Confusion" followed in 2009, and "Roots" was released in 2011. This trio from Thuringia can play the songs of Irish blues-rock legend Rory Gallagher. Stephan Graf has a perfectly suited voice, and while blues-rock remains the genre heading on this album, which consists entirely of original compositions, The Double Vision demonstrates with its ten tracks that they can also stand very well on their own two feet.
The trio's music comes from the heart, from where the blues begins to pump before continuing its journey through the body. For the listener and this album, it's exactly the opposite... first the music, then the skin, and finally the pumping station of the red bodily fluid.
The Double Vision serves up a blues-rock sound that is incredibly catchy. The bottleneck guitar offers few breaks, making Stephan Graf's already impressive fretboard skills a true delight. The same can be said for all ten songs. Whether you explore the acoustic side of the genre or rock out on the dusty road, the music is just as captivating.
The band can be proud of their stage experience as headliners and as support for artists like Dana Fuchs, Randy Hansen, Eamonn McCormack, Ryan McGarvey, Hadden Sayers, Todd Wolfe, and Ten Years After.
In the opening tracks, the band knows only one direction... straight ahead on the highway that seems endless, even on the horizon. With well-placed breaks and quieter passages, "Cold Wind Blow" allows for more extended solos. The trio's sound is full and rich, and Stephan Graf consistently finds the perfect guitar tone to evoke enthusiasm. This track also offers a glimpse of their ballad-like sound.

In the opening tracks, the band knows only one direction... straight ahead on the highway that seems to stretch on forever. "My Window" is top-notch slow blues. Melodic drumming by Silvio Remus and Torsten Sieboldt's subtly pumping bass set similar accents to Stephan Graf's guitar. The music slows down even further, as if you're cruising in a traffic-calmed zone. Excellent! With this level of quality, an encore is definitely in order. "Some People Told You Lies" is another ballad. Guest musician Andreas 'Hermann' Saul adds another touch of melancholy with his harmonica. Stephan Graf delivers another wonderfully dynamic solo. Fantastic!
The harmonica also features in "Black River Mud." But this time, you could say it's a Mississippi Delta track. The metal tube is back, and this time Stephan Graf slides it across the strings of a dobro. Andreas 'Hermann' Saul is now part of the wonderful groove, and his solo adds a touch of country to the vibrant mix. A highlight! The closing number, "Blues 'N Roll," features another guest. Friedel Graf lends his saxophone to the powerfully rocking, superbly arranged exclamation mark. He had already given a taste of his talent earlier in the set. Naturally, the woodwind instrument fits perfectly into the funky blues rock sound, and the guitarist embellishes his instrument's sound not only with the wah-wah pedal.
Long live rock 'n' roll! For The Double Vision, it goes by the name "Gasoline and Water." As we all know, gasoline and water don't mix. In the hands of this band, however, it works perfectly and effortlessly with crisp riffs. This is how blues fans are thrilled!
With their original compositions, the trio from Thuringia convincingly demonstrates how well one can express oneself through the language of the blues. "Blues 'N Roll" isn't just The Double Vision's motto, it's also the driving force behind their music, a 12-stroke engine powered by at least six cylinders. Bravo!
