The story of BluesShack begins in a cozy neighborhood pub, on the corner of a street, hidden just outside the center of Utrecht. In this small café, run by volunteers, a group of people gather every third Thursday of the month to celebrate the blues in dance and music. On this 5m2 stage, the members of BluesShack met in 2018 and the band slowly started its current to take shape. Since then, the blues dance evenings have led to more performances, international attention and performances at blues (dance) festivals, and to the recording of some beautiful albums.
The band first gained wider visibility with their album 'Live in Moscow', recorded in Studio Moscow (NL) in 2019. The second album, 'Hold On Tight' was recorded during the lockdown period in 2020 and 2021. The album's title track of the same name spent 14 weeks in the top 10 of a major UK independent blues chart. The album also received attention in the US, for example, Radio Muscle Shoals reached a large number of radio stations in both the US and Canada. The third BluesShack album, recorded and mixed in early spring, will be released in mid-August 2023. This new album 'Ten To Five' features three new original songs written by the band members and features exciting collaborations with Chad Strentz from the UK and with Franck L. Goldwasser, aka Paris Slim, from the United States and France. A BluesShack performance will take you straight back to the old Blues and Jazz clubs. And to music by Etta James, Willy Dixon and T-Bone Walker, among others. Let yourself be enchanted by the jazzy-soul sound of lead singer Loes Jongerling and enjoy the tasteful playing of the band (blues harp, piano/Hammond, guitar, bass and drums). The band is based on keeping the music spontaneous, pure and fun . All band members bring a different kind of style and energy to the stage and that guarantees a dynamic night out!

This, the first solo album by the former British Lions and Mott guitar player, is an interesting mix of styles. Across these 15 tracks Ray Majors encompasses heavy metal, blues and reggae to produce an album that is varied and full of surprises.Leave Me Be is a good, mid-tempo rocker which features Joe Elliott (of Def Leppard) on vocals. This just throws a curve, as The Killing Time shows distinct Eastern influences I thought, as indeed does Errant Magic which is an instrumental and would not have been out of place in the hippyish late 60's. I'll Never Leave You is different again, showing reggae overtones and with a very lightweight, almost minimalist arrangement. Half the tracks are, however, definitely blues-based, such as the excellent Love That Burns, the instrumental Jam Rag and Back Door Friend. Driftin' is a great mid-tempo rocker, while Ray turns the amps up even more for the crunching Soon, which is pure power-metal in style. If you bought Friends And Relatives then you'll already have heard Walk The Line, a powerful moody ballad which brings visions of the Deep South to mind.This debut album has been a long time coming. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, there should be something on here to suit most tastes.

Gary Grainger, the  Blues Broadcaster of the Year, describes Aaron's music as having"a great raw sound," according to Curtis' promotional info sheet. Such is consummately true, more so than on other albums. You won't hear him playing Jimi Hendrix-style riffs, or trying to pull off the same fretwork finesse as Eric Clapton. Aaron sticks to traditional and contemporary blues rhythms, although basic, and compels listeners to turn the volume up. Vocally, he's reminiscent of The Doors' Jim Morrison and Warren Zevon (who performed "Werewolves of London").

The band play an interesting hybrid of classic rock and a more standard blues rock, which is a mix of say Robin Trower and THE CULT with a layer of raw garage punk rock a-la Iggy Pop. KILLING TIME for example rally has a CULT feel to it, and the band have also shot a pretty fun video for the song too featuring Germany’s most well-known female motorbike stunwoman. Look no further than A LITTLE BIT if you want to hear some of that Robin Trower influence too, but there is also a slight progressive rock feel to it which gives the album yet another angle.
